Default Engine burning oil in vtec

My other car, a del sol with a B18c started burning oil really only when in vtec. It has good compression in all cylinders approx 230psi. I probably need to get a leakdown test, but I thought someone else may have experienced this. The engine has about 70k miles on it. Im guessing valve guides? or something. Any comments are appreciated.

It could be the worn guides, or stuck oil rings. A leakdown will help determine the problem.

B18's are cheap enough I'd buy another used engine and rebuild your current one. Look for a JDM Automatic B18C, they don't spin as many revs as the 5spd's.

Since this is about a Del Sol, Moving to Car talk as well.

How much oil are you talking? Pretty much ALL VTECs consume oil at high rpm. 1qt in between oil changes is pretty normal if you are frequently at high rpms. A good percentage of that oil is typically lost via the crankcase ventilation tube.

this sounds right...

but I wouldn't buy an entire new B18C if the only problem is worn guides...just rebuild the head...
