Mishap? The best drivers in the world race in WRC!

Yeah, Rally fans are nuts....

Yes, mishaps, life is full of them. If the car spun out, something in the suspension broke, a tire went flat, etc., and many of those spectators could've been toast, even worse than the recent drag-racing incident that killed 4 people yesterday or the day before.

There is a footwork video out there of a WRX race car where the guy heel-n-toe AND double-clutch all his downshift at some ungodly pace. It was by far the best shifting video I've ever seen. I'd post the URL if I can find it again.

I found the video! Check out the second video (Round 7 - Infineon Raceway - Footbox Video). Awesome downshifting skills..

i understand the reason that you are supposed to rev match and stuff but how do you knwo how much "blipping" is required to get the rpms where you want them to be?

Practice makes perfect! I think getting close and having some slip is better than dumping at the wrong rpms and disturbingthe balance of the car.

Your ears will teach your foot after you do it a while.

I haven't been able to heel-toe with the foot roll in my S2k -- it feels like the pedals are too far apart for my feet. I have been able to do it better using "traditional" heel-toe, with the ball of my right foot on the brake and stabbing the throttle with the heel of my right foot.

Much more practice required, I guess.
Glad you said that because I've been trying to learn and starting to feel like i'm getting it, and that's how I do it. I saw this video and thought "Oh crap, I'm doing it wrong".
