Why trade the 2004 E46 320d? That should be a great car that will run forever.

I sort of putting my eyes on the Nissan 350z Roadster!

Till now, there is not even one on the island because we have a hefty tax on over 2000cc engines so for that kind of money people prefers going Porsche/BMW, etc.

Any comments are welcome.

It has nothing on the S2k. At least UPgrade if you're going to get a new car.

I think the interior room is fine, but then again I'm 5'12" and 150 pounds.

It really depends on what you like. If you like the status and you want looks from more girls then go with the BM (although your wife may not appreciate it, the looks i mean.)

Personally I'm more into how a car feels and the connection I get while driving the S is not worth compromising for any luxury.

Different strokes for different folks though. Go with what's important to you.
you cant be 5'12 your either 5'11 or 6ft

First of all, I think you guys are being much more objective about this, and handling it quite nicely. Someone mentioned Z4's on my350z and it spawned the dumbest, most subjective car debate I've ever seen...of course they resorted to the typical "chick's car" bullshit...such a copout, as if the 350z is something so overtly masculine. I see so many chicks in 350z's, it's not even funny. And G35's, that's a whole 'nother ballgame.

My biggest problem here are the looks comments. Yes, they're more controvertial, but don't call a car ugly just because it's styled. I think some of you are throwing that word around much too freely. A Pontiac Aztek is ugly. If the Z4 is ugly, then the S2000 is nothing more than boringly, plain...straight up, middle of the road, vanilla roadster styling. It's beautiful, but not exactly revolutionary.

As for the S2000, shifter, I HONESTLY do not know what so many people are on about. I never have figured it out. Yes, it's quick and snappy...but that doesn't equal "smooth"...a bmw shifter is smooth...an S2000's shifter is notchy and cheap feeling, and the clutch pedal feels like you're stepping on a slug...there's no travel, no resistence...it's just mush...bit like a civic.

And pricing...wah wah...it's a BMW, get over it. Mercedes, Porsche...they're all overpriced. And Ferrari is KING over overpriced. It literally is, "the price you pay" to own a more special, and unique vehicle, that has more engineering, newer technology, and better quality, etc (although Honda does have excellent quality, can't deny that and I'm speaking very generally).

I'm sure some of you will call me a brand whore/car snob...but I don't particularly love BMW's and I think I'm just being honest.

I agree with everything you said, except for these two statements.

The S2k shifter is extremely smooth, almost to the point where I can't even feel that I put it in gear. The only time it feels "notchy" is when I'm way past needing to change the MTF and when the transmission is cold. I find it interesting that you are the first person that has ever written that a BMW's shifter is smoother than an S2k's...

The other thing is that you say the Z4 has MORE engineering. You simply don't know how many hours were spent trying to get either car to work as planned, but I'd bet 120hp/liter(yes, I brought it up!) from a reliable street car is no easy feat. Sure, the technology might be newer, but newer is not always equal to better.

"You get what you pay for" stands true in most cases, but I think you're selling the S2000 short.

To me, I define smooth and being fluid and buttery, not sharp. And to me, at least with all the S2000's I've driven, the shift is precise, short, and sharp as it snicks into gear. I'm not saying that is a bad thing (it's great), it's just not a fluid, organic movement, and thus I wouldn't call it smooth. It's more mechanical.

For the 2nd point, I was simply speaking very generally...not necessarily S2000 vs. competitors...sorry for the confusion. I was implying more the manufacturers in general (i.e. BMW > Honda technology wise). I didn't mean to play down the S2000 as anything other than great. That being said, I still think the Z4 possesses more engineering (encompassing exterior and interior design, available features, etc...). The S2000 is simple car, and that's what makes it so awesome.
