Thinking of getting a Z4.
Bimmers do not necessarily equal status symbol for many serious drivers. BMW happens to make pretty good cars. They have become overpriced in the recent years though and when I got the S, the decision on it over the Z4 2.5 was obvious. The Z4 3.0 may be another story, especially if you can get a ton of money off from MSRP. Throw in a ssk and it'll shift almost as nice as the S. Good luck.
Since the Z4 came out I've been wondering if I'll ever like its shape.
The M version seems like it is a terrific car, but I just think it is completely butt ugly. Sorry. I could never live with a Z4. Too bad.

OK! Thanks for all replies, and all are valid.
As I am already a BMW owner of a E46 320d, I have an idea what BMW are about.
BMWs are great cars, with focus on driving pleasure, comfort & luxury if you willing to pay.
BUT they are also expensive to buy and more to keep. Honda could teach a thing or two on long term reliability.
As I said I do love my S but sometimes I wonder if its time to move on. And I like to stay in a open top roadster! So my options are limited either to the Z4, the Boxster or the Merc SLK.
Saying that I have not excluded the AP2 at all, in fact until I test drive the others its still my number one choice.

Today I am going to my local dealership, and have a look.
I will keep you posted.
Thanks again.

JMHO, but I drove several roadsters before buying my S2000, including the 3.0 Z4, and I was surprised how badly the BMW handled, comparatively speaking. It was powerful, but I found it really unbalanced, and this after I was prepared to love the car based on amenities, etc., and experience with other BMWs (like the M3). Very disappointing.
Based on power, handling, comfort, and practicality, I think the next car up from the S2000 is the Boxster S ($$$ not too different from a well-equipped Z4, I think).

I really want a V6, 6L, H6 with sequential gearbox next because I do 95% city driving.

I think the interior room is fine, but then again I'm 5'12" and 150 pounds.
It really depends on what you like. If you like the status and you want looks from more girls then go with the BM (although your wife may not appreciate it, the looks i mean.)
Personally I'm more into how a car feels and the connection I get while driving the S is not worth compromising for any luxury.
Different strokes for different folks though. Go with what's important to you.

Z4 is a nice car. For me I can't stand the looks and it doesn't have the same responsiveness that the S is so well known for. Also I feel like it is overpriced...
I do feel that it is a great car though and one you might be happy with if you don't agree with me in the above areas.....go for it.
