Since we are on topic about torque in honda engines, can someone please list other engines that are NA and the same engine displacement as an s2000 or a civic si that has more torque? Sorry if it's a dumb question, but when people make fun of Honda cars for having no torque, I always thought about how much torque they could expect from a Naturally aspirated, small 4 cylinder engine.

I don't think the torqu e output is bad for its displacement, but a lot of current/past/prospective owners would like to see a bigger engine w/ more torque.

Why is Ferrari afraid to make more fuel efficient vehicles?

Why is GM afraid to make smaller vehicles?

Why is Rolls Royce afraid to make less luxurious vehicles?

Why can't you just accept a car company for what it is and take their car building philosophy along with it? Honda will never make big horsepower/torque engines. Never. Just accept it.

Honda is on a steady growth for decades. I'm sure they're losing sleep over torque (although they're losing sleep over this economy though).

GM and Ford make cars and trucks with lots of torque....look where that got them.
Yeah, it was the TORQUE that did in the big three.

It seems that Honda engineers all parts to have no more and no less strength than required for expected normal operation. The amount of output seems the same, no more or less than exactly what is needed for expected use.

Any increase in the range of torque would require numerous stronger parts... and would preclude many standardized parts and suppliers.
What about the NSX or even the S2000? They both have unique drivelines. Why not, especially in the NSX with a V6, give it more torque?

If that's the case, then why does the Pilot/Ridgeline/MDX get such crappy real-world mileage? Small engines have to work harder to move larger masses.
my ridgeline gets 16-17mpg with my everyday driving. take it on the freeway and its 20-22mpg

my 2005 dodge ram, the same type of everyday driving would be 13-14 and 16-17 on the freeway. my commute hasn't changed in the past 4 years, so its apples to apples, for me.

thats with the crappy WI ethanol blend....

and while its only 2-3mpg better, thats also a +20% increase over the ram! its still a truck/suv.....good luck seeing 20+ on a reg basis...

I've never seen more than 17.xx mpg in the Ridgeline. Maybe 1-2 mpg better than my old 4wd Avalanche w/ 4.11 gears, but nothing to write home about.

This is Car Talk, not S2000 Talk - if you only want to pander to Honda and S2000s, stick to S2000 Talk.
