Interesting how they've retrospectively applied the "Sonderklasse" moniker - the car developed as a direct replacement for the Heckflosse S models, where it signifies "Super" or twin carburettor.
Back then, a Sonderklasse was a DKW (which M-B once owned, then sold to VW to become Audi!)

Just an update to say the car sailed through its MOT yesterday ... 
Still enjoy the smoothness and rattle free nature of the ride. Not bad for a 21 year old.

I am not into the subtle differences between older Mercedes so forgive me if I have got things wrong but there is a glowing article in The Telegraph today singing the praises of a car that looks very like yours Shisky.

Evidently Martin Buckley is in the process of writing a book about the Mercedes W123 in which he says, "Legend has it that at a meeting in the late Seventies a director announced that the firm's cars were 'lasting too long'."
