An M2 thread with near zero M2 content Hiw did we get onto 60s US shitboxes??

Back OT...

I wonder what the manual will be like? Any manual BMW I've driven feels like the box is made from plastic, truly horrible, but maybe this will be better? DCT will be brilliant as usual.

Guilty as charged.

But developing Greenman's point, pretty much all modern cars are shit-boxes.

I would be bored with an M2 after a day of ownership; it's the type of compromised vehicle some hen-peck 'professional' with an inferiority complex would own, after being coerced into getting it instead of their preferred choice by their stridulating harpy wife.

There is a lot of hate going on which i dont get

Sure it's probably not perfect but for a man who needs 4 seats its gotta be worth a look.

If you need reliable, low maintenance and high performance these cars are it.

And the 135, 235, that Golf etc (though i prefer rwd)

Thing is, manufacturers already know they can be boring for the car enthusiast - therefore to try and dance some noise back into the equation (if it's been muffled from a sensible exhaust out the factory) - hey presto - sound aktivator! This device bolted to the bulkhead booms out the bass notes from a more meaty exhaust system, or supposed to. There's one on my GTD - I suppose it gives it "voice". rather daft on a diesel, its more comedy value.

These days, "driver involvement" is being sold to us as supposed to being at driving at 6/10's in a near 400 horsepower turbo wagon of some sort - whether its M2 etc..

Whereas maybe 10-15 years ago, it used to be as 11/10ths in a Type R of some sort with half the power. Times have changed.

Maybe that's why classics have been on the rise, or another contributing reason.

I like the idea of the M2, but the M135i can fit my bikes in the back easily, and is 90% of the car for 80% of the cost.

Pole, running costs aside would you have one over that Aygo or whatever you bought?

I would.. Then your only argument is it's too expensive for a daily and i'd rather spend that on macs, old 60s v8s and wonky furniture right?

I wouldnt swap my S for anything in the £30k bracket but i could easily buy this, its ticks my daily needs as it's very similar to the old M3 (barring mine is NA blah blah)

Thankfully, that's it's not a choice I need ever make.

I have an 'interesting', and inexpensive, fleet' which satisfies almost all of our current requirements, aside from a convertible for our next Euro road trip. And when that comes along, it won't be anything Euro-bland...
