I'm sure you have some interesting cars, that's not my point though. You have at least one which isn't.

Put it this way, if I were paying are you saying you'd have the Aygo if I offered you an M2 or it?

I don't have an Aygo BTW; I have Toyota iQ.

If you were paying; yes I would have an M2... But I would feign gratitude until I waved you goodbye, and then the M2 would be shoved off to www.webuyanycar.com and I would buy a used Lexus LS600h L.

If I were using a state-of-the-art tunnelling electron microscope I still couldn't find my interest in an M2.

Sorry.

Me neither.

I'd say selling my current fleet of 9 would buy an M2 outright but why? Each of them (those on the road anyway) is a little adventure every time driven, they all have a distinctive character and you can find them in a car park. There's also the little matter of them going up in value at the same time the M2 would be falling in value. Thank God I'm not a wage slave with a monthly car allowance and only room for a couple of vehicles. Would the 30yo me have wanted one? Probably, but I always liked older cars and the vfm they provide. No hate from me for the M2 - I'm just not excited by it. I can however see how it represents motoring nirvana for a certain type of person. I can picture them, their life, their house, furnishings and hobbies and their ability to wire a plug.

Not everybody has the time and space to own and maintain a whole fleet of cars so in that case a car like this makes a lot of sense. It does everything you need a car to do and is good at it too.

I love the fact that bar washing it I don't have to do anything to my M, I don't have the urge to modify it or mess around with it just drive it when I want to and it's a pleasure to do so. It's the most comfortable car I've ever owned and it's still fun when you want it to be.

There's not many cars where you can have a lot of fun on a trackday one day and do a comfortable 3000 mile Euro trip with the whole family and a boot full of crap the next, without worrying the thing is going to fall apart.

Good point.

I should get the Leg End on a track...they drift beautifully, according to the vids.

If it's just that it doesnt represent value for money that's a different debate. Second that its not as interesting as a corvette or whatever takes your fancy really

And fwiw i wouldnt buy one near new either

But i am constrained by parking and by time, i did 1500 miles last year in my S2, so 9 cars would just be a ball ache. 9 MOTs, 9 services etc

We have 4 between us and the drive looks like wbac

With a fleet of old cars mileage is minimal on each one. I don't suppose I'll do more than a couple of thousand miles in any of them over twelve months with the possible exception of the Jag which is kept for longer journeys and crap weather. As a result, 'services' are no more than annual oil and filter changes. Other things are done as and when necessary. MOT failures just don't happen if you know your car and have a good relationship with the garage. I know 9 is excessive but four isn't. Three of mine are mothballed in long term storage.

It might do everything you need a car to do but there is no car built that does everything I want to do. I of course accept that some make better compromises than others.

There was a long running thread on pissedupheads with some utter knob maintaining a 320D was all the car you needed.

I agree with that. My S2 is a much more raw, exciting car than the (much quicker) M. It is horses for courses and one can never do it all, you'd want some kind of GT, a GT3 type thing, maybe an Exige or Caterham, a big ass RR, an F40, an M5 touring.. Lots of stuff... If there were no constraints

My 3 atm cover a lot of bases.. The GTD golf is laughable on fuel - 1/3 of the consumption of the M3 on my commute. 50mpg across town ffs!
