Or were you refering to the 'supercar' variety? Even with these sorts of cars the S could hold its own in the twisties with a good driver behind the wheel.
i don't buy that at all mate. we could go into the old define supercar thing but I'm thinking Gallardo(?), F430 (330bhp/ton) and 911 GTs are the very bottom of that group. Believe me, if you were Lewis Hamilton I would lay a bet I could lose you in any one of the above, twisty as you like, if you were in an S.

I think what olddogmeat means is that a good S2K driver could stay with a typical supercar driver through the twisties. With which I agree.

Ludicrously enough, and kind of by way of an extreme example of this, late last summer I was driving from Lochearnhead back down the A84 to Callander (VERY twisty!) in my RAV4 beater and I kept up with a R8 all the way - including the overtaking..... although understandably not simultaneously! Obviously he left me utterly on any straights, but (knowing the road VERY well whereas I'm figuring he didn't) I sure caught him up (gunning my old bus admittedly) through the bends - to the extent where he gave me the thumbs up as I passed him as he parked up in Callander!

Partly, because they've not driven a supercar.

Partly, because most supercars are useless on a twisty UK B-road.

Thirdly it's not understanding a scientific baseline for comparison...

Yes but some newer owners think their S2000 IS one.

Russ.

Keep yer hair on chaps

The point I was making was that the car itself (the S2000) is a very capable car in the 'right hands' and 'could' embarrass even an exotic under the right road conditions with a very good driver at the helm. I never said it 'would' every time with any driver. Nothing scientific

The point I was making is that the S, even though a 10 year old design, has all the ingredients to make it a great car that 'could' stay with or pull away from a lot of your 'modern performance cars' including badly or averagely driven 'supecars' (and yes I do believe that and if you really believe you could leave for dead a pro race driver in an S in you understeery Gallardo on a twisty section of road then you must be a bloody good helmsman Nottm )

Has nothing to do with thinking that the car is a supercar that's actually laughable and I don't imagine there's anyone on here who imagines that.

I was curious to know what Russ actually meant by 'Modern performance car'? that's all

Cheer up everyone

Its so boring on here these days my dear, one has to have a pop at someone.

Russ.
I'm a bit paranoid and sometimes do not even realise when someone is having a pop at me. Even if I do twig I never know whether it is for fun or in earnest.

Delighted to meet Russ a few weeks ago and in this instance know his comments were just for fun. I consider him to be a mate. Know he thinks I am an alright driver because he told me so.

Remember Russ has left the fold and now drives an Elise. Been a Lotus driver myself. The inimitable Lotus handling does tend to make one feel superior. It's a common trait.

Likewise I wasn't having a pop either. Maybe the question came accross a bit shitty. Emails and forum posts are notorious for this.

Apologies if my post caused offence to anyone

Apols for not putting my point over very well. When I say 'typical' supercar driver, I mean the overwhelming majority who are NOT enthusiastic drivers per se but who simply buy the car for badge kudos. Whereas I suspect that the overwhelming majority of folks who buy a Honda S2000 aren't all THAT bothered about badge kudos but are more concerned by the very nature of the car with going fast A LOT rather than cruising about looking flash. As such and like ODM I'd imagine that a genuinely good driver in a S could give a typical supercar driver a good run for their money through the twisties, No? Or maybe I'm just wasting my time and repeating myself in a more elaborate way and am still talking shat? Probably

Whilst by no means claiming to be a particular brilliant driver myself, I have FWIW in recent years driven (quite hard and on a regular basis) a good friend's 911 Turbo, DB7 V12 Vantage, F360 and AM V8 Vantage.

But I certainly take your point (just not when aimed to me )
