Looking at it a different way, the marshalls get better front row seats than any amount of money could buy, and they get them for free.

Was it Abu Dabi that flew over loads of marshalls from Britain? Maybe they didn't pay them, but they probably got an all-expenses paid trip with Formula 1 thrown in. I don't think I'd be complaining.

I agree however that Monaco is boring but since when has F1 had anything to do with racing? Tactics have taken the place of racing in the modern era. Contrast this with your average club meeting, wheel to wheel with on track overtaking.
Which sport have you been watching? First race of the year that isn't full of wheel to wheel racing and overtaking, and F1 is dull and just about tactics. Monaco is never going to be different; the only way to change it is not go to Monaco.
OK, I take your point about wheel to wheel racing sometimes. But how many overtakes can you remember that were not a.Made during pit stops
or b.made using DRS.
I still maintain that in the past, when the power exceeded the ability of the chassis, we had closer and better racing without the need for artificial exitement intensifiers

You really don't watch F1 do you ... there has never been a season as exciting to watch as this in all the time I have been watching F1, over 25 years now.

F1 at the moment is awesome and every race this season has been a cracker. As Dembo mentions Monaca is unique even though as Lower and I both stated it was something of a bore fest, nonetheless F1 is superb this year so far, as for the Monaco race ..... well it's Monaco.

I think my predictions were a bit rubbish though

I have been watching F1 for about twice as long as you have and I think therefore that my opinions are based on greater experience. If you think that this is the most exiting season ever then you are very wide of the mark.

Point me in the direction of any overtake not made in the pits or not using DRS.Both introduced to try ans mke the "racing" exciting.

And yes, your predictions are rubbish.

Stop misqouting me in order to make yourself look smart. I said 'there has never been a season as exciting to watch as this in all the time I have been watching F1'. It's obvious to anyone who watches F1 that this season is fantastic, you seem very bitter about that, you should try and cheer up a little Mr Meldrew

You seem to have some personal issues that you need to address.

If you remove your blinkers for just a moment you will come to see that if you take away tyres that go off after 5 laps,DRS,KERS and pitstops, every race would be a Monaco. These measures were introduced to enable overtaking so as to ward off boredom for the spectator.
What sort of a race is it where the one being overtaken is penalised by having significantly less power available? Where the majority of significant overtaking is in the DRS zone, where pitstops are regarded as overtaking opportunities?
My point was,and is, that we had closer and more exciting races in the past without all of this. Granted that cars were slower then and did not handle as well as today, but the racingwas better.
In my opinion, and it is as valid as yours, what we have today is a spectacular and yes, exciting, show of powerful cars and talented drivers, but it is not racing as I understand the word.
Maybe there is a case for removing the grotesque aerodynamic aids, this would give close racing! This will never happen as the teams would never agree. But that is another can of worms.

BTW, Meldrew was usually right.

We also had f1 drivers dying every other season or race even in the golden days because the cars were simply not safe. I don't think anyone wants to go back to that simply for spectator entertainment. I agree that drs and tyres make it a little moot, but at the end of the day, the cars are as safe as they can be whilst still providing one of the best season starts, ever. 6 different drivers winning the first 6 races, yes that is a record for the entireity of f1 history.

To say that this season is not exciting is being harsh, but I agree the races back in the 50s through to the 90s had some real blinders. But this season is also going to down in history...

I agree 100% on the safety aspect and would not advocate going back to the cars as they were.I also have no issue regarding the spectacle offered by cars cornering at warp speed.
I thank you for getting the point that I was trying to make. and it will not have escaped notice that the last 4 races have been won by the pole sitter driving into the distance.

Maldonado didn't drive off into the distance as Alonso was leading out after the first corner...
