It turned out to be faster than anyone had thought. They had to shorten the GP2 race by 2 laps as they realised after practice none of them were going to make the distance.

It's probably the first time this year we've seen significant fuel saving, in spite of all the moaners claiming they'd be driving like taxi drivers.

I heard somewhere Pirelli hadn't had a chance to check the track surface before making the call about the tyre choice so played it safe with the choice.

Seems to have been designed so that fuel savings are critical to finishing the race.
From what they were saying on the coverage, most of the teams thought that likelihood of a safety car (both because of narrow circuit and because of Jules' accident) was very high, so the fuel calculations were done on that basis.
The irony being everyone driving for fuel saving waiting for it was going too slow to crash.

The thing I've found most interesting about this years merry-go-round is Vettels contract. He had been contracted until the end of next year but a clause allows him to leave early dependant upon his place in the drivers championship.

Are we so sure Ricciardo is giving him the pasting it appears? He did then go on to beat Ricciardo in 2 of the last 3 races after the announcement though admittedly they were favourite circuits of his.

Yes I was going to comment: it's from Motezemolo who has of course left the team. So it's still not official. Sorry.
