I totally agreee Monaco is anachronistic in the F1 calendar, it's kept there as a society event more than for the racing - they could ditch it and I wouldn't miss it (but that's never going to happen)

He did psyche himself up a bit for Monaco (with the help of media interviews adding fuel) and probabaly saw it as his best opportunity to get pole and a win. I love that he's pissed off at losing and not a corporate automaton spooling out empty congratulations. He's also probabaly moved on by now and looking towards the next race and we are the only ones dragging it on

Monaco is a freak of a track that under modern safety regulations would never be allowed now if someone suggested it. It's the only race of the year I hope we don't get on the BBC. Roll on Canada

I agree that Monaco is an anachronism, but it is a race I enjoy watching - this year being a case in point, with close racing (including overtaking) and incidents from start to finish. Nowhere else to you get such an impression of the speed of the cars and the skill of the drivers - I watch inboard footage from most circuits and sometimes think that driving an F1 car on the limit doesnt look so difficult.....then I watch some footage from Monaco and think
It is also a circuit which punishes mistakes...which is the way it should be imho.....modern tracks are way too forgiving.
Looking at this season though it's clear the rule changes have gone too far and I don't see how they can mend the performance deficit other than leaving it to balance itself in the coming years.
I generally enjoy Monaco for the reasons Ian says, though I think there may be a good case for saying it should be shortened a bit more.
I agree that most modern F1 tracks are far too forgiving, and there is too much hard standing run off. I suspect in an effort to prevent only 9 cars finishing every race. But I disagree about Monaco. There is only one decent overtaking place coming out of the tunnel, and this generally makes for some of the most boring "follow my leader" races. I couldn't see Riccardo getting past Hamilton in the closing stages as you can't overtake. To win the Monaco grand prix, start from pole and baring any mechanical issues you should be fine.

The last 2 races were the kindest to the performance deficit. Canada is going to be something else entirely.
I think Singapore is probably the only hope for some competition this year, and Hamilton is fairly handy round there as well.
I remember watching Brawn run away with the first 5 races or so but their advantage was reduced by 5 or 6 races in... this is different however the Merc engine and package seems vastly superior. Canada is a straight line speed circuit, the fastest cars will dominate ... still can be a wrecker of a circuit though, even an engine wrecker quite often, not to mention the 'champions wall' .. nothing should be taken for granted here.

I think Mercedes could effectively freeze development this year and get going on next years car and still walk it.
It's funny looking at pictures of Jenson from back then. He looks like a tank compared with now

I'm proposing a rule change. Any cars which lap other points scoring cars must pull into parc ferme before the last lap, then the drivers must run it
