Another example of how Hamilton can deliver over rosberg when it really matters. Cue the Hamilton haters society comments....lol

But a very sad way to end the race. I'm sure there will be a lot of questions for Charlie to answer about the deployment of the safety car. A bad day for F1....

Not sounding at all good for Bianchi at this stage.

I am astonished that the race was allowed to start without the medical helicopter in place and able to fly - I thought this was an absolute condition for an F1 race to go ahead.

Some criticism of race organisers - essentially Honda - being reported on Sky at the moment.
According to Sky (which I guess you've seen since posting), the helicopter was able to fly, but it was a medical decision to take him to hospital by road ambulance.
Yep, it was Sky who initially said there was no medical heli present, but later in the show corrected that statement.

It seemed odd that there was no footage of the crash....the BBC commentator's didn't have a clue what was going on.where as sky had a man at marussia quite soon after.

Martin Brundle has been banging on for years about the danger presented by these recovery vehicles.

I think that we will now see a change, but it is a crying shame it has taken an accident like this bring it about.

Latest update in Bianchi is that he is in intensive care following an operation, and is breathing unaided.

Official FIA statement on the accident. (Will have been superseded as it refers to him "undergoing" surgery)

Terrible day. The celebrations were suitably muted.

I didn't see the crash - did anyone? - but surely the organisers were responding with all speed to the Sutil off. What a freak that in less than two minutes another driver lost control at the same corner and hit the bulk of the JCB rather than the Armco/tyres I think the organisers played things by the book and, were it not for this tragic accident, we would all be applauding their care abiding by the rules and regulations yet getting the race on despite the adverse weather.

As soulcrew noted, strangely in this day and age, I don't think the TV cameras caught Bianchi's accident.

I disagree however that it was a freak / fluke that Bianchi had essentially the same accident as Suti though - it is a fast downhill left-hander, and there was a significant amount of water on the track - one car having aquaplaned into an accident, it is no surprise for a second car to have the same accident, it often happens in racing when the rain really comes down.

There will be onboard footage as I think all F1 cars have to have 5 cameras fitted.
