If you have a look over on edition38.com you'll see those are already very very popular - finding a near mint standard PoloG40 is hard work.

predictions are good

limiting contributions to this thread to why those predictions are wrong isn't so interesting

I bought another car yesterday to back my judgement

previous shape 500SL

112,000 miles, all the toys, old bills for £22K - £3750 (asking was £5K)

I still can't believe how cheap these are now - now cheaper than the R107 (Dallas Merc as I call them) which preceded them!

I reckon that 500SL will at least treble in value in three or four years

Is that the huge square one, or the very pretty one that replaced it?

Or

It's too close to call!

In other news, your road fund license bill will be equivalent to at least the average national wage if you keep on buying gas guzzlers with any intention of being able to keep them all on the road

Great call on the SL.

A friend recently bought a 280 with 70K miles for £6K. A wonderful motor car; amazing build quality and still looks very modern to my eyes.

The 600 V12 might be worth a punt too, but these still appear to be commanding good money.

I'd guess that, in general, one would have to stick to marques with "history", such as Jaguar/Mercedes/some Italians etc. or something that motorsport enthusiasts want to get hold of such as MkII Escorts. (S2000s may be worth buying up cheap because the engines are highly sought after by the rallying fraternity - the instructors at the Phil Price Rally School knew all about the car). You might find the same with CTRs as the engines are often put into kit cars or Lotuses.

I guess it comes down to the interesting or exceptional (an XJ-S is interesting, and the SL is exceptional).

I'm surprised you didn't hang on to the M5 and put it into storage.

I'm hoping I won't lose much if anything on my W126 S Class ...

I remember when you got that and IIRC you got it for almost nothing, it's one of the better built and by far the better looking of the big Mercedes stuff - the new stuff just isn't the same.

the cars are/will all be on SORN

they live on a private industrial estate so there is ample opportunity to run them without tax, insurance or MOT

I'm not interested in driving them on the roads - just making money out of them
