Honda e

even though i liove in a safe CON seat (donkey painted blue ect) i'm voting lab, even though last time i only did it to possibly lessen the maj, as corbyn...... i liked his policys, but not the extreme pacifism.
I don't use them much in winter and gonna do some protection and restore stuff on one S2000 so it's no impact really given I have another on the road
The way people roll over and accept this amazes me. I honestly would have expected riots at this point. For years they were incentivising BEV adoption but not planning on coping with the inevitable load.. even my moderate use is about 15 days of use added a month. No incentive to charge it off peak, nada.
Asleep at the wheel I think it's called
Corbyn I can't stand. Big supporter of the shit show robin hood energy up here.

@Nottm_S2 Your big issue on the thread topic is the price of fuel (electricity) now, you who invented the term empg to quantify in ICE car equivalence! You also foam at mouth (rightly) re electricity wholesale costs linked to gas wholesale costs. While I of all people (house with no gas) should applaud that view (and I do), to all this debate I think to myself shit happens unfortunately
When I built new the only boiler fossil fuel option was oil. Still no gas main in the village. I wanted off stinky fossil fuel and paid a premium for green although admittedly that was only at the point of delivery and we (then, 2012) still had some fossil power stations to cover when the sun don't shine and the wind don't blow. Unlike today's madness.
Assuming you do move on from the 'e' when your school run days end it will likely still be untaxed and depreciation still very low so you will have done well. Stumping new tyres is I agree a pain but we know this is a heavy car not a 2CV! As regards cost of fuel (home electricity) touch wood the Octopus overnight low price band tariff will continue for a while yet. They are rightly committed to trying to get folks to time-shift their consumption patterns. At least with my mileage and driving style I should get a few more years out of my tyres. Fuel to date £77.47 for 3772 miles so 1.9p/mile. Something like 350 empg?
As a matter of interest what will be your tyre life mileage? On 17s I think whereas mine are 16s.
edit: Carol's Smart Cabrio the 84bhp 0-60mph in 10.4secs version tax is £30pa.
I would be happy to pay similar for the 'e', not a big deal to me.

Tyres have last 13k miles which I think is good considering I wear lead boots and enjoy it
I dont expect our gov to anticipate Russia being twats but there are certain inalienable truths
1. We import only a fraction of our gas yet the entire supply chain is shown vulnerable to the likes of Germany and France's shenanigans (galling, I thought we were taking back control?)
2. Energy supply is now perma ****ed in this country until we resolve electricity supply separate from Gas. The gas supply chain will never be restored to previous prices as no sane country will trade with Russia for at least a decade. This means any TCO for a BEV is also ****ed, VW offered me an ID5 for a mind blowing £800 a month PCP
1 & 2 are not progressing. I hope Rishi cranks up the pressure on energy cos on Thurs because if he doesn't he is pumping our cash into their banks without excuse. The current debacle is a sticking plaster only.
Anyway, my plan might yet be to exit BEV sooner and just keep the 2 S2000s and the bikes. As much as I like the car it makes no sense at current p/kWh and is virtual scrap at 50p+
It's only not depreciated because people are stupid imo.
You can generate and timeshift supply but the investment in the latter, for someone like me coming to market now requires a level of faith I do not have
In an ideal world I'd live a bit less urban and just cut off from the grid
edit to say a diesel Genny can run at 50p/kWh so becomes an option without a plan. Maybe I stick one in the boot of the e?

While I expect to pay more when my current 'Go' contract ends in August (7.5p low rate /35.11p fixed), I am sitting on 7.9p/kWh lifetime to date for the 'e' almost all being home charging. So it can be done well under the 50p/unit mark Jason. But not by sticking with standard variable rate tariffs: you are at the mercy of the Govt subsidy (if it continues from April, which I doubt). My 'Go' renewal in 8/23 I expect Octopus' current offering and to pay 25-30p per unit from the range of 12p low rate /44.35p variable.
Note that last word 'variable'. All the retail suppliers want us on variable tariffs so they can pass on market variations as and when they see fit. They don't like it but quite a few savvy buyers are still on 'fixed' Go tariffs. Phasing these out they are and quite rightly
So while I don't get the Govt 'cap' hand-outs doled out to variable tariff payers I am at least still free, though the noose is tightening. As long as they fix and don't **** around with low rate I should be ok. Worrying development is 'Intelligent Go' whereby they decide when to charge your EV and you must use their brand of dumb charger which THEY will control. Freedom and self-determination ebbing away.
Over my dead body amigos
No way Jose

The optimisation of that makes sense, especially for chugger users like you and me
when there is capacity, we will chuck it into your EV for cheap
The lack of planning to migrate generation off gas,
the lack of any sort of localised gas market for the stuff pulled out from UK waters,
the lack of progress on multiple nuclear ps plans handed over to the Tories well over a decade agoThe lack of reaction beyond writing a blank cheque with our money and crashing the pound...
I let me ohme manage charging 9 times out of ten though it's in dumb mode.. I will publish my view on Go as running numbers now but for now I won't be investing in anything electric, especially cars

We should all be driving a lot less, I was hoping the pandemic would enable a lot more people to work from home, and that seems to be happening. Although I monitor this at the local train station Charlbury (direct trains to Oxford and Paddington). That used to be full on weekdays before the pandemic, but during the pandemic it was empty. Now it is full again. Seems employees are terrified from missing out on promotions and pay increases when working from home. Idiots, most work is solitary anyway, and my productivity increases massively if I don't have to listen to the dingbats in the office.
Electric cars are way too expensive for what they are - a lot easier to make than a petrol or diesel car. Honda E seems to have dropped to £ 28k though https://www.honda.co.uk/content/dam/...21-Honda-e.pdf. But the range is not really useful for me and probably most other people.
The MG 4 EV seems a better option at £ 26k. But it is Chinese making it a no go.
Volvo just launched their first full EV, the EX90. Cost: £ 100k. Who are they kidding? For that money you can get much better and more desirable cars. Porsche Taycan for example.

Is the Volvo not Chinese built too, and the Polestar? I too avoid anything made in the PRC if at all possible, if Putin hadn’t invaded Ukraine they might have done the same in Taiwan by now, fear of their markets disappearing is the sticking point.
The Polish Star is made in China. The EX90 is at present made in Charleston, South Carolina. In a year or two the EX90 will also be made in China, and the Polestar in Charleston. Volvo cars is of course fully owned by the chinese.
Price is wrong, they are mid to high 30s now. No granthttps://www.honda.co.uk/cars/get-a-brochure.html
BEVs are a dead dodo in the current environment and that is likely to continue for a long time
anyway.. I promised something which I have been doing.. let me find a pc
