Turns out that going all electric aint the paradise it was sold to be..
Hydrogen is the way, but again we aren't ready for it. The country isn't ready for full electric cars - battery tech is supposed to be changing in the coming years to replace heavy and expensive lithium.
Weedy 1.0 petrol turbos with part electric is currently the way to go IMO for daily hacks.
Anyway... If it wasn't for that dastardly putin...
And the tax hiking tories...... (I read somewhere that about 12 years ago, it was similar price per barrel of Brent, but fuel was half the cost...).. Different world and economic conditions, still... We were reeling from the big 08 crash!

Yes that's the same curve I used to 'game' when Octopus Agile tariff worked before the power crisis hit. I would often charge the house batteries in the early afternoon lull. That tariff went tits and I much prefer the 'Go' tariff which is essentially fire and forget.

QED

There was always a mini peak cups of tea, morning TV, coiffeur/cosmetics before meeting up with ladies who lunch. In the days before the power crisis I would often charge my house batteries in the early afternoon dip just before the peak period hit at 4pm. TBH now I much prefer the 'Go' tariff which is for me simpler just 'set and forget'. Funnily enough the summer time is trickier to manage as I have to guess how much sun there will be next day. No point in filling the house batts if there is PV to be had next day for free.

The frustration I have with Go, for me (no house batts, no intention of getting any) is that it is a zero sum game with hassle
car cheaper, everything else more expensive and

means I have to plug car in overnight only or I really get stung
now.. if I were incentivised to do so.. normal rate during the day, 5p at night, I would bite your grubby mitt off
But that is not how it works. So they can suck my balls and I'll charge it during peak

Privatising the energy industry was always gonna take a generation to be effective and have to be carefully managed. Our gov are simply not capable enough for the latter

Service due in a few weeks, about 5.5k added in the last year as I now work fully remote and my mileage, such as it is, is shared across 3 cars, 1 bike and a couple of cycles
and shank's *
No costs incurred in c20 months and now at just over 11k

AVG about 3.7m/KW so still cheap runabout. Has handled dog duties flawlessly
I wouldn't swap it for a petrol currently

* My Garmin reckons I do about 4k kms a year so more than the bike

2nd service, 11.3k

Nowt to report, swapped the pollen filter. Under plan.

Washed it, scratched it. I then polished it out and gave it a coat of Z2.

Managed to get a charge in Bakewell, middle of nowhere, off a BP. Quite surprised.

Will need new rears this year before winter. My mileage is way lower than I thought as I'm remote based 100% now so purely leisure and spread across 3 cars and now 1 bike.

Dealers will be destroyed on the reduced maintenance imho

I was in Johnsons Honda on Saturday picking up a gasket for the inspection cover of the TCT of my S..
Sat in the e for a few mins... My first sit and fiddle with its toys. Bloody hell, the boot is tiny!
(My S in the background sporting its new shadow chrome 'loys ... .)
Nice little car, very IKEA inside. Cramped in the back but it's a supermini. £38 large though - for this premium edition, whatever it was. What a farce that cost is... Definitely NOT worth that money. Totally priced out the market if you're after a tiddly leccy car.
The Salesman said as I hauled myself out of the e, "suits you that...". Jesus... I must look old. Middle aged market then.
I said "pal, look outside.... THAT'S what the Honda DNA was...."
I do like it, but not 38k likey. If 38k was burning a hole in my wallet, I'd walk across the road, save 5 grand and bag a stupid Yaris GR.. Then again... I wouldn't

I agree, crazy money.
it's a unique proposition. People comparing it to a Corsa are missing the point though. It's a tiny, fun to drive but luxury car. I think middle class city dwellers would love it if they tried it.

But I paid 25k for 6 months old.

That Yaris will cost ya a lot more.. my 18 months driving and almost 10k have literally cost me £30 a month. Cheapest car to own I have ever had on running costs so the initial cost gives immediate payback.. less than £500 fuel (remember when electric was cheap) would have cost me £1.5k at 40mpg and £6 a gallon which is a pipe dream now as we know
getting one, getting solar and saying bye to the UKs failed energy policies is Uber attractive to me

I remember you borking at paying no more than 25k at the time.. And bagged a deal.
The worry in the short to medium term is the electricity cost.. No one has a crystal ball of course, but rocketing to 4grand energy costs shortly, isn't just gas cost related (but largely so).
I feel the whole selling idea of leccy cars is more than ever, too expensive in the first place - if you were buying now, not 2/3 years ago. For that, they remain a head scratching luxury, where range is usually an issue. Sodium batteries are supposed to be far superior to lithium. Hydrogen just hasn't taken off like it should, self charging cars with solar roofs make sense to be even cheaper.
Electric perhaps should have been piloted to public transport first, including taxis - these are the old objects belching out poisonous diesel gases and with the exception of newer greener diesels.
I just think the whole electric project isn't quite there and hasn't been executed right by govts. If they really want us to go green, they should be handsomely cheaper not extraordinarily dearer. Social class shouldn't define if I can afford to want one, or to need one. Whether it's a Honda, Vauxhall or whatever.
But yeah, Honda have really way over priced the car for its still sort of bland but chic interior. It's a 15k used car in my eyes, 20k new.
Used prices remain strong, 18-20k cat d, 26k upwards as a non accident used. It's definitely been a good investment in the short term like most used have been.
I'd better get saving if I want one

You need to reset expectations as much as Honda do
a base ice Fiesta will set you back £20k+
Cost a lot more in fuel (double or more at a guess)Cost to tax (£dunno)
Cost more to service
At £31k when I ordered it was steep. At £37k it's stupid. Whether it still adds up versus an ICE as a TCO I don't know, many variables
