Whats wrong with using the footbrake? No need to put the handbrake on if you are just waiting for a couple of minutes, unless saving your clutch on hill starts.

Most probably a DSG or auto

The traffic light procedure for which is thus apply footbrake, pop dsg into neutral, apply the handbrake - simples. When pulling off the footbrake has to be applied to get the car back into drive, then release the handbrake, by which time the lights have turned red again

I'd hardly put that into the "road captains" bracket though.

In the S I'd pop in to neutral & use the handbrake, in the panzer I CBA as I don't have to use a "heavy" clutch, so I just rest my foot on the brake. Just being lazy.

The foglight thing I can understand as it has the potential to interfere with your driving. The how people wait at lights thing, hand VS foot brake literally has no bearing on you waiting behind them. Seems like a stupid thing to get upset about

Here’s what the Highway Code says about this:

114

You MUST NOT

use any lights in a way which would dazzle or causediscomfort to other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horseriders

use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriouslyreduced. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves to avoid dazzling other road users (see Rule 226)

In stationary queues of traffic, drivers should apply the parking brake and, once the following traffic has stopped, take their foot off the footbrake to deactivate the vehicle brakelights. This will minimise glare to road users behind until the traffic moves again.

All pretty clear there.

As suggested, if I'm at the rear of a queue at traffic lights, I'll put the handbrake on butleave my foot on the footbrake if I see another vehicle approaching from behind, this gives them an extra visual cue that I am stationary. Once they have stopped, I'll remove my foot from the footbrake.
