I much prefer the old codger (even in a Signum...) dawdling around slowly to some self-important oik in some variant of a (usually) TDi hanging off my tail, itching to save 5 nano-seconds on their journey.

I've lost count of the times driving through a 30 limit suburb at 30 mph in my Prius (I know this for sure as I have a bright HUD indicating my speed) to be overtaken by the same blokes in a Q7 and an X3. Loads of school kids, drives exiting onto the A-road, junctions; every hazard in the book which anyone with a brain larger than a Walnut would recognise.

people driving to slow for the road conditions cause frustration and annoyance to the drivers behind.

this eventually results in dodgy overtaking.

therefore its the slow drivers fault.

i remember in the highlands that there were road signs asking slow drivers to pull over and let the faster traffic past.
Situations where people drive at half the posted limit are extremely rare - and will almost certainly result in a tug if the Police see them.

More common situations where people drive at 50 in a 60 or 27 in a 30 are completely different and if those situations frustrate you, you need to get some driving and anger management lessons.

Moreover, there is no way any accident which you try to attribute to "frustration at the old codger (in a Signum) driving too slowly" will hold up anywhere between an insurance claims department and the courtroom.
Sure - except that no-one here is expressing frustration or anger at those who drive below the speed-limit, no does anybody here appear to be in need of driving lessons; since everyone here simply wishes to be overtake in a safe and legal manner without the overtakee behaving like an utter twat.

I'm adopting the Graves approach.

Laughter is after all the best therapy.

Heinz, I think what most of us are getting annoyed about is people who full beam you merely for overtaking, completely safely. In their stupid eyes overtaking is a most dangerous thing.
...This is similar to the outrage exhibited by motorists (particularly motorcyclists) who whinge that someone has pulled out in front of them when they have been exceeding the speed limit

Or my personal favourite, people that enter roundabouts at ludicrous speed and hide behind the priority convention...
Although you make a valid point, why would anyone want to pull out in front of someone speeding? Sure they shouldn't be doing it and you may feel it's dangerous, but it's not your job to enforce the rules of the road and it is their right of way, and surely the last thing you want is a speeding motorist itching to get past you who then performs a dangerous overtake

You can laugh at them 6 miles down the road when they've wrapped their bike/car round a lamp post, or they've been pulled over by a copper.

No-one wants to pull in front of someone speeding.

The point is that on some roads and on many roundabouts, once must make an assessment that traffic that cannot be seen will not be travelling at a ludicrous speed and if within the limit, so much the better.

You must surely have entered a roundabout when the road to the right was completely clear only to have had a "where the fcuk did they come from?!!!!! moment? It happens on mini-roundabouts, where four roads converge in straight lines on a centre point, all the time.

Or the equivalent when trying to join a main road?

Yes, one does all one can to take the extreme situation into account, but there comes a point where you may have to commit or you would never join a roundabout or a main road.

In those circumstances, where a motorist or motorcyclist ploughs into you at double the limit, I think you'll find 'priority' has very little with deciding who was to blame.

Fair point I see what your saying.

Driving faster than you can see ahead, especially when approaching a roundabout at speed with poor visibility is somewhat suicidal. You'd like to think that should an accident be caused in this situation, then the Police would recognise the signs and correctly deduce that they were speeding and be dealt with.

I am definitely becoming grumpier when driving. I know I have increased the amount of times that I mouth to people 'nice f**king indicating' on roundabouts (normally mini r/abouts) where I have had to come to a complete stop because they failed to indicate they weren't going to cross my path and therefore I could have continued on my merry way.

Nah, no-one tailgates me for long; first roundabout or bend taken without slowing sees them drop back with their knob between their legs...

But surely they have priority, why should they signal? I seem to remember that those of us that passed our test when Pontius was a river pilot were taught that we should signal when leaving the roundabout. But I have been known to be wrong.
