Interestingly, I overtook one such twonk this morning, no reaction - then the Focus that had been behind me overtook the same twonk and tucked in behind me, only for the Focus to be treated to the lights AND the horn.

Either it was originally intended for me and twonk's reactions were as slow as one might expect of someone doing 40mph on a Roman A-road limited at 60mph - or twonk somehow felt I had the right to overtake in the S, but a Focus hadn't.

The other utter twattery that will now start to appear (and had appeared on my 9pm journey home) is one headlamp out or one headlamp on main and the other on dip (badly aligned), which is simply fabulous on the unlit country roads that make up 39 of my 40 mile journey.
did the folowing car obstruct the car you originally overtook in any way?

I see plenty of cases where the overtaking vehicle doesn't so much 'tuck in' as barge in

the simple test (in my book) is whether you can make your move without the other driver having to alter their speed or position

I don't see too may cases where that holds true so people will get upset

as for overtaking them on a clear stretch and that attracting criticism - I don't get that either - apart from the conclusions you might draw from the typical age and appearance of the driver and the type of car being overtaken

just be careful no-one films you making a mistake or it could end up on here

No, no slamming in - or at least, not in reality, there may well have been in the biddy's perception.

Completely agree on the simple test described, and I do see some that have a perfect right to be nadged-off with gung-ho over-takers. But increasingly I see those that haven't, unless their spatial awareness and perception are gone to the extent that they are a general danger.

It is almost always the elderly and, as folk live longer and that particular generation are no-longer priced off the road as precious and future generations were and will be in late life, that's my theory for why it's on the rise.

The flip-side of the simple and reasonable test described is of course, considering whether one's own actions anticipate the reasoable expectations of others - for instance, not being willing to overtake what's in front (perfectly reasonable) but being equally un-willing and/or un-aware that leaving a gap that others could slot into between them and the thing in front would be a considerate and loss-free action.

I don't barge into gaps because of the simple test and also because I am fortunate enough drive something that can comfortably take 2 or 3 at a time when the safe chance appears; I do have sympathy for those who want to move at a reasonably set speed-limit but can't because a truck, a caravan, a Jazz and a Fiesta are convoying at 20mph below it with less than a couple of yards between them.

These idiots are everywhere and aggrevate you to the breaking point.

Best thing to do is to pull over (safely) and report such driver to the police.

The police won't take any action whatsoever, but it'll certainly calm you down and diffuse the situation.

Always remember that you are in the Sports car and you are the one overtaking. In the eyes of general society (and the law unfortunately) you are a terrorising speeding menace who needs to be taught a lesson thinking the road is your private race track. Expect witnesses to pop up from nowhere and that the person you overtook was already doing the speed limit -2mph even though they were doing speedlimit -20mph.

Sussex police introduced this web site https://webcontact.sussex.police.uk/asdprs/ which has apparently been very successful. I have found it quite cathartic to remember the details get to destination and complete a report. However usually I can't arsed or there are more than one instance so I cannot remember the precise details of both.

Of course now it is getting darker there is the seasonal hazard of slowing down / to a near stop when a car approaches as they cannot see due to headlight glare.

It's very much a regional thing.

Down here, no-one bats an eyelid.

Overtake in somewhere like say, Nottingham, and you'll get every wheezing old corpse in a Hyundai flashing you down the road.

Something to do with the fact they can only afford the squirt to do 40 on an A-road and a f ucking Hyundai Accent and you've got a 'flashy sports car'.

It's pure indignant, bitter, envy disguised as self-righteous admonishment.

Great isn't it? Go round a couple of roundabouts & overtake them for a second time!

An interesting link!

Here is the picture that is posted on that site:

Here is the URL for that picture:

I rest my case - The Police are a bunch of Stereotyping fools. Why post a picture of a Fiesta with alloys and call it a boyracer?

Imagine if they'd have posted up a page that was indicating the rise in car theft and it was a picture of a black man? (Note - I don't care what colour your skin is, if you steal cars, you are a tw4t and a c unt)

Hmm.. our regional thing is that the majority are over 70, a good lot are over 80, and they are all enjoying their monied dotage by buying Mercs, Jags and big Beemers and driving them at 30mph. I exagerate of course, but by much. I'm also aware that I'll be old one day - I have already completed a living will that permits my children to take me to Switzerland when I start to portray these characteristics. I exagerate but...

This is the Cotswolds. I've heard tell of a roundabout on the A40, but I've never seen it...

Indeed it varies.

Tell you what I've not seen for a while; the embittered Zafira driver who wanted to prove himself against anything and everything.

I don't understand that; they've certainly not swapped them for Range Rover Spurts, have they?

Oh look, there's a 1 degree barely perceptible bend. I'll brake from 40 to 30. Then take 2 miles to accelerate back to 40.

And why does it need a full 1 minute gap to turn right? Or a 3 second one causing everyone to brake. And never accelerate again.

Every other driver on the road is a bunch of cunts. The sort of people that design new niche cars for Mini(TM)
