Thumbs up Modifry's DCI (Dash Control Interface)

I didn't even know that anyone made such a thing, but it seems like a pretty straight forward idea... link the in car radio controls to the aftermarket head unit via the remote interface. I like it.

What I don't know is if this product is any good. Has anyone done this? What is the build quality? Does it work well? Is it easy to install? Is it installed behind the radio or behind the car audio controls? If it is behind the radio I'm all over that, but behind the car audio controls is another thing all together. How do you get behind that panel???

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Thanks!

Bob makes good gadgets. The DCI works great. I've had both the IR and now the wired versions on 3 different alpine decks and they've all worked perfectly.

I have the infared DCI - works great. Use the wiring harness Bob sells with the DCI and its a very simple, direct set up. The DCI essentially plugs in between the factory wires to the dash controls that are behind the HU and the actual HU, so its easy to install. The Dash controls themselves are difficult to get to, but it can be done if you don't mind dropping the steering column. Fortunately you don't need to get directly to them.

I actually taped my DCI module behind the passenger shin panel for easy access if I ever wanted to change the speed settings for the volume control, fyi.

I second Saki's opinion. I installed the DCI into my car quite easily. There is no need to get behind the stock controls, everything plugs in behind the HU. The only piece that doesn't plug in there is the speed sensor, which does not have to be installed, though installation of the speed sensor piece is pretty simple, as well.

Hell...the speed sensor was the big sellin' point for me . But regardless, here's another to the DCI

The speed sensor is the best part of it.

I too installed the unit behind the passenger shin panel, which is also where I installed my Sirius receiver.

I too was skeptical until I heard a few good recommendations, but I'm glad I did, because I was not going to install an aftermarket head unit that disabled my dash controls.

I've had mine for three years and it still works as advertised. The auto volume control is the best part.
