Don't forget that if you do sell your S, pay off your current debt then buy an '05 next year, you still end up with a $30+ car loan.

I totally agree with Jeddy. Ditch the car if it's at all causing you financial strain.

Interest on a car loan is lower than any of my cc interest so the 30k in debt is different when im actually paying a payment and seeing my debt decrease.

I doubt my car payment will get much lower.. its only 300 a month as is.

and 07 there will be no brand new S so 05 is my last chance.

also I should be gettinga raise and making a lot more money hopefully within the next year.. all else fails I'll just buy another older S like I did this time but with less debt.

On this point:

Jale, what are you hobbies/interests? I know when I've been in tough finances, I always had to get back to the fact that my S2000 is my primary form of enjoyment for 7-8 months of the year, and that most of my other interests are just as expensive without the guarantee of a smile on my face.

Something to think about. I understand the need to be financially secure, but if you're secure and miserable, is it worth being secure?

Wait till some guy tells you your new kitchen is going to cost you 80K samolians... You'll be happy you have equity in your home and a zillion ways to spread the debt.

Seriously, you raise an interesting point, Jeff. It depends a lot on your personal pain threshold. I get VERY antsy when I face a decision that's going to put me in a disadvantageous financial situation. This is how I was raised. It is far more important to me to be financially healthy than to have a fun car.

That said, you young guys must have your chick magnets.

Based on Jale's and my love life, we obviously aren't driving the car for the chick magnet factor.

We're also single and child-free, which gives us more freedom to live first and pay later. If I was seriously dating someone and thought kids were in the future, shoring up my finances would get much more priority.
