I recently read an article about spinach being recalled due to high cadmium levels. It turns out a high percentage of spinach being sold has excessive levels of cadmium. The one we buy is called organic girl spinach , even though it is organic it had some of the highest levels of the heavy metal and it is being pulled off the shelves as we speak in Canada. It seems to be problem in the industry. I thought of you Rob as you seem to eat it regularly.

Thanks for pointing that out I hadn't heard anything about that will look it up. I eat spinach almost every day.

The spinach being pulled in Canada is this brand - the one we have eaten in the past - Organicgirl - But it appears the Salinas valley in California is high in cadmium within the soil and much of what is grown there has traces of cadmium in it from soil uptake by the plants, it is an issue in general but right now it seems only certain brands are affected.

I get the Little Salad Bar Spinach from Aldi it's not organic. I didn't see it listed anywhere.

We got a chance to visit our in-laws, so we had a Portuguese dinner at their home with a bunch of relatives. Not too bad.

What did you have? Does your wife or her family make the 'Portuguese' soup? I could never find the official name for it just seems to be called Portuguese Chourico and Kale soup.

Oh yeah I love it. The typical one is pronounced soupa de couve verde , sometimes see it as Calde Verde etc. Their family makes it with thinly sliced collards (couve) , or you can use kale too. It is in a potato broth, and it does have chunks of Portuguese chourico in it. I really like that soup. There may be different ways to make it, as their family is from the Azores and they use a lot of collards in the Azores, it can be different from versions made on the mainland where they may use kale. They also make a really good dish of fava beans, roasted chorizo sausage, and typical roasted chicken. We had a cod fish dish dish too, where they put flaked cod fish with potatoes and other ingredients and bake it like a casserole which is pretty good.
