Thumbs down I need help!

Hi guys
Haven't been on here in awhile, in my last month of school for my BSME...
Bad time for a dead car...

I went to drive the S this morning and it wouldnt start. The engine turns over just fine, but no fire. I tried hooking up the laptop to the EMS, but couldn't establish communications. Worry starts to set in...

I noticed the EPS and ABS lights were blinking erratically, so I first suspected the battery might not be getting enough juice to the AEM. Checked the voltage, 13.01vdc, thats fine, even tried a 2nd battery...no dice.

Scratching my head and pondering thoughts of a dead ecu, I noticed a pattern in the blinking lights, so I recorded them.

The EPS light blinks 3 repeating "codes"
--.
--..
---....

The ABS light blinks 2 repeating codes:
-------.
-..

I don't know about you, but those look like OBD-1 codes to me, but I couldn't find anything on how to read these codes.

The SRS light just stays on solid.
The temp gauge lights solid after about 30 seconds.

ISPBOOTTESTER won't establish comm either.

I tried to search the useless aem forums for info, and got nothing...left the same thread there too.

I'm in big trouble here if I can't get my car up and running, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys.

Wow - and to think I was just thinking about buying an AEM v2. Is the support really this bad? Does it have a warranty? This is a $1500 computer we're talking about...

Good luck buddy - the fear of these things is often worse than the actual fixing of them, though.

It's a v1... 1052U, 5 years old, and no, there's no warranty (at least from what I can tell on their website).

Don't get me wrong, it's been flawless for 5 years now, but today, out of the blue...dead.

disconnect power altogether...

Mine had to be grounded to work.

Don't ask me why, but it has a ground now. Found this out on the third rebuild.

I've had a few customers whose brand new AEM EMS failed right out of the box, not something you would expect from a $1500 ECU. I would definitely call AEM Tech Support and explain the issue to them. First thing they will ask you to do is reload the firmware. Seeing that there is no communication between your laptop and the EMS, more than likely they will ask you to send it in. No worries though, after sending more than a dozen boxes to AEM, the repair never exceeded $275 including shipping. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help a fellow BSME.
