Supermeet Suggestion Thread

I'm not sure how much American Honda would be willing to support S2000's as it has been discontinued, I'd think contacting various local Honda dealerships would be more beneficial to our community. Just off the top of my head there are 5 Honda dealerships in the Orlando area, maybe approaching them to donate $100-200 per dealership to underwrite the costs of the meet would be better.

The $ contributed to the event in 2006 from AH was $10K! Now will AH continue that support if in fact they stop making the S. Who knows, we have a whole year to work on it.
I have the names of the proper people to contact now and will be doing so armed with the results fo this years meet and presenting it in such a way that AH would see value in supporting it.
Companies and or people buy tangiable products, services and ideas or concepts that do one of / or 2 things.
1) It will save you money.
2) It will make you money.
Our presentation has to do one of these, how can supporting the FL Supermeet make AH money.
I had a great time, a no meet will be perfect. My suggestion will be to have like a stage (i.e. HIN) or more activities so people can interact or at least get to know other S2k owners. Also IMHO the group drive was too early for members that were more than 150 miles from the location or were not staying close by.
Again I had a blast, I just did not met no one from another area.

You guys keep doing what you are doing. I provided feedback. If you don't want feedback don't ask for it. Maybe you guys just want your horns tooted.
Good job you guys on a fantastic outing.

So ironic Wii, while Ferrari, Lambo exotic owners love our cars, some S2000 members were pissed and they ridiculized @ me when I was asked in a jack-ass way to move my car, like I was in the wrong place .. while my car still a Honda, unbelievable ...
Not hard feelings though, in the end still I had a great time with my south FL crew.
Shame though.

To be honest with you i was dissappointed it was so close to Tampa. I was hoping to drive my car somewhere. Fact is nobody stepped up to the plate to do this so we got the ball rolling and organized the event. Most who organized the event agreed we wished we could all drive somewhere. Alot of people got to see our area. Last year it was in Miami. It's nice to always do different locations. The fact that the meet was in Plant city is not any reason you or anyone couldnt drive from Jacksonville. Gas isnt that expensive
RoB - Barry...great job. All in all it was a great event that will be a standard to compare those in the future. There were a lot of moving parts and execution was excellent.
The only item I would suggest is water. I kinda discovered that there was water at the green tent. I heard a couple of other people asking about water and luckily I was within earshot so that I could direct them to where I found it. A couple of those big orange coolers with ice, purified water from Publix and Solo cups would be an inexpensive alternative to $.50/bottle water.
I'd like to have folks stop throwing stones at Jphish NOW. Feedback was requested and he offered it based on his perspective. And yes, he is in GA, but hangs out with the Jax crew as much if not more than the GA group.
As far as location, the drive was not as bad as I thought it would be and would be willing to drive that far again (if gas stays cheap
). But yes it could have been a little more central. Kissimmee or Winter Park would have reduced the drive time for both Jax and Miami by a little bit. But after looking at the map to get really "central", Palm Bay is a location that would have everyone driving less than 3hrs....but I'm not sure the appetite of someone to set up a meet there. Barry and RoB did have an appetite to set up a meet that wasn't too bad of a drive for anyone and kudos for that!
I'm sure the group drive was fun, but I can't say I'm surprised that there was some attrition. With the capability of this car and the type of person who buys this car, it's probably nearly impossible to hold a completely safe and entertaining group drive. Back in the supermeet planning thread I proposed an s2k only autox...I still think that is the way to go. A safe event that can be fun for everyone and gives a spectator event for those who don't want to participate. There are a couple complications...it would mean extending the meet to a 2nd day; and it would mean choosing a location near an autox site (BTW...Palm Bay has an autox site
)
As far as the food...well...I was near the front of the line, so mine was at least warm.
I do love the BBQ idea, and while Woody's is good, I put together an event about 6yrs ago catered by Sonny's...the food was great and they cooked the meat on a trailered BBQ roaster so it was hot. I would have thought Woody's would have done the same.
So the only other item I'll bring up is a touchy subject. I totally understand the reason for the $39 cost. But I also know that pretty much discouraged all but 3 owners in Jax from coming out. That's really too bad since we have a very active group. I do think that participation might have been higher if you could buy what you want...want to park with everyone, pay $10; want a t-shirt, pay $12; want lunch, pay $10; etc, etc. I do think that would have made life for Barry and RoB tough since it would be hard to easily set a price on each item to ensure that the nut was covered (and I have to give them props for putting up their own money to make this meet a reality and success). But probably the best solution is to get some revenue from the banners in the Florida forum that can be used ONLY to offset costs for future supermeets...that should drive the participant fee down considerably.

Woah guys and gals lets take a second and address a couple of things:
--we chose Plant City because it was relatively central on the i-4 corridor which is also the middle-ish area of the state. We are never going to please everyone on location just like you wont please everyone on the dates. you pick one pull the trigger and whoever chooses to attend will do so.
If you all would like us to plan another event it is going to be somewhere relatively close to our base of operations....I dont know if you have ever tried to secure catering or tenting or rentals of any kind but being able to meet with these people and plan with them in a timely manner is critical. I am not going to try to setup what we did in Miami or Destin. People in those areas are welcome to set up something, but as far as me being able to coordinate long-distance...not able to...I have way too much of an anal-rentive and controlling nature to just trust everything is going to show up and be OK. I cant do it.
Group photo: I made the announcement during the raffle that we were going to stage a GROUP photo out in that field after the raffle. The miami people may have been the first out there but that was not some epiphany you guys had. I am sorry that others ruined your shot and I am sure they would have held off if you asked them too and you could have had your miami crew shots...no problem. Having the lotus and the NSX in the mix should not have been an issue either. They are just cars.
Yes this was the "Florida S2K Supermeet" but I am proud to have people like renderman, Q, Vyktor, Nelson and many others who were previous owners attend the meet.
The cars in the pictures were nice cars and they should be in the shot. The ONLY reason we asked the NSX to move was for framing for the group people shot. I heard a shot about "get that acura out of the picture" but that was taken by me to be innocent ribbing and not open assholeness. I would expect a higher level of tact and class from our group if other comments were made and in a way they were clearly not jokes.
I promised not to defend anything in this thread so I will stop now. I apologize for reacting but some of these issues had some assumptions that are simply not true.
BTW this thread is expressly NOT for having our horns tooted..... that was done in spades in many other threads. James, I luv you like a brother and I want your opinions but you have got to calm the reactionary stuff way down dude. Say what you need to say but people are going to react to what you type and they way you type it. Many people are going to say you weren't even there so how can you have an opinion about the event. You are very polarizing in your comments sometimes and that has worked against you in some ways.
No flamming by me intended..... I just want the BS to stop so we can get more feedback. I am perfectly fine with everyone's position on everything discussed so far.
lets continue....

Just so you know the pics were taken from my truck. The story is the photographer took pictures with your car and the Elise and took plenty along with everyone else. Then they wanted some pics without the two cars in them. I dont see anything wrong with it. I didnt hear the person that asked you in a jackass way to move your car but one person doesnt speak for the whole group of us. We were pleased that you and the Elise came to the meet and had no problem with the two cars in the pic
