Am I missing something? You all seem to like to compare the S2000 to beefed up sedans or coupes. The S2000 is a roadster, convertible top,,,, get it? I would not buy the S2000 because of its straight line numbers, or torque, or weather or not is as good as a bmw 330. To me, it is the fun to drive factor, and the fact that the top comes down. Now, in comparison to the other roadsters, Honda seems to have the edge. The Miata is to small and slow, I am 6'2" and cant use the clutch because of leg room. The new z4 is very nice but over 10k more. The Boxster is expensive to buy and maintain, which seems to be the only complaint of thier owners. For me Honda wins in the Price, performance, reliability, and fun to drive factor.
There are other convertibles though, but most are expensive for what you get in terms of ammenities and quality. The Volvo c70 is sure to be phased out. The Toyota solara is a mothers car, VW bug doesnt hold together, the american made cars, LOL.... I know I am missing some but you get my pointe.....

I JUST TESTDROVE THE S2000!!!! after hedging back and forth between cars, i think that test drive did it. i originally thought the car was too small when i sat in it at the showroom. not much knee room or enough adjustments on the seats. i sit very far back and reclined somewhat normally and was worried about the car not being comfortable enough.

with the seat all the way back i was really comfortable. the seats seems to have enough lumbar and leg support to keep me happy. my friend let me drive the car and i got it up to about 7000 rpm and wow... nice! the car doesn't ride too harshly either. firm but not too firm! i have a 1 hr commute each way and i'm very picky about comfort.

i was looking at C5 vette, 350z, and a very used acura nsx. unfortunately i just got an ins quote and the S is $1000/yr. i'm married no accidents over 35 etc. its more than the vette and the nsx(allstate btw)

After reading this entire post, I'm still on the fence. Here is my current situation:

I owned an 01 E46 M3. Insane car. During a storm, a tree in my yard was struck by lightning, and crushed my car. It was totalled. I hae now been on the list for a replacement for over a year. I know that I can switch to a new dealer, but my family has bought numerous cars from this dealer, so I have a bit of patience.

Currently, I am driving a 00 Prelude base with the sequential box. This was the car that I drove my senior year in high school. I love this car but:

-it is front wheel drive
-not particularly quick/fast
-not particularly well equipped
-is a Honda (meaning that people in ricey Civics and other cars try to race me, my car is associtated with these cars)

I am due for a new car. I really, really like the S2000. Yet:

-I am a very young professional. My appearance is very important because it helps me overcome bias that my youth brings. Silly as it may be, I didn't have nearly the same encounters that I have now, when I drove the Bimmer.
-I plan to modify any car I buy, yet I am very conservative. I don't care for the rice comparisons.
-I really need/want a navigation system.
-I am concerned about no traction control. (Part of this would be fixed with the suspension system that I would install, but still, I am concerned)

Again, I greatly admire the S2000's purity, design, affordibility, and community (this is by far the best board on the net). Yet I have hangups.

I am currently considering a:
-Porsche Boxster S
-BMW M3
-Audi TT
-Audi S4

I know that these cars are very different, but they are my potential options. Once I purchase the S2000, I would modify the brakes, wheels, suspension, and engine, thus the price difference would not be so great.

Has anyone been in the same situation that I am in? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Very surprising statement! What's there to "fix"?

Your right foot should always be the #1 source of traction control.

Con: weak car. Go drive a real car like an SS, WS6, Cobra, C5... you'll never consider a ricebucket again.

As CAR magainze says about the S2000:

Mention: Best 4 cylinder engine in the world.

That pretty much sums it up.

You tell 'im, Wicky!! I love these bozos who breeze in from the ether, get a username, and post BS. Too funny.

I'll agree with one thing in Alex's brainless post... If you think a 4-cylinder engine is the "worst type of motor" then please don't buy an S2000.
