I started this thread partly as a "tongue in cheek" parady of all those other threads that seem to pop up on a regular basis. You know - "Convince me to buy an S." "Should I buy an S because I'm worried about ........." etc, etc, etc.
AND, partly because I thought it would be nice to have all the comments in one thread.
THEN, as always, some dipsh!ts gotta come into this thread due to their own INSECURITIES about their own cars to say why theirs is better.
I NEVER ASKED, "SHOULD I BUY A PORSCHE OVER AN S2000?" NO OTHER CAR CAME INTO THE EQUATION IN MY ORIGINAL INTENT! I DON'T CARE IF YOU DRIVE A PORSCHE AND YOUR INTERIOR DECORATOR IS GAY AND YOU LOOK AT HIM WITH A GLEAM IN YOUR EYE! I DON'T CARE IF YOU "THINK" YOUR 350Z IS GOOD LOOKING - ANYTHING WILL BESIDE YOUR PONTIAC AZTEC!
For those who come into this thread without reading the first post, here is a REMINDER:
"SHOULD I BUY AN S2000 ?"
As my first post on this awesome forum, I'd just like to introduce myself. I'm picking up my brand new 03' Berlina Black S2000 tonight after much thought on which car to choose. It came between the 350Z Enthusiast, the Evolution, the WRX, or the S2000. It seems like these are pretty common choices. My previous car was a 2002 Honda Civic Si hatchback which I loved to death but just wasn't fullfilling my sports car needs. Too much body lean, not enough power, etc... I'll be sure to post my first impressions after tonight and set up some pictures. Thanks
Hi Folks, Well, I've been reading the forums now for a couple of months and decided it was time to chime in. I bought an '01 Silverstone a few months back with only 9K mi. The car is flawless. I've never driven a car that stuck to the pavement, and had just the right amount of power to make it dance, like this one does. You have to love the mountain twisties VTECing 2nd and 3rd for miles and miles. The mountians outside of Denver ROCK!!!! I test drove an '04 Mazda RX-8 last night just for kicks. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I'm sorry, but, for roughly the same money, you can get a car that has real power in the S2000. The Mazda did feel real sticky but there just wasn't enough torque to make the car really perform, if you know what I mean, and I didn't feel anywhere near as connected to the road. The Mazda is a cool looking car, there's no doubt about that, but my money was well spent on the S2K. Thanks everybody for providing a great site for those of us that really appreciate a car that literally gives you great bang for your buck. Ken
Let me go ahead and sum this thread up:
Is this the car for you? Is. This. The. Car. For. You?
Go look at yourself in the mirror and in your best Jack Nicholson voice, say to yourself,
"I want to own an amazing 2-seat roadster. I can deal with the minor impracticalities because a sportscar is not designed to be practical. It is designed to put a huge grin on my face and dammit I haven't had enough of those."
Say that three times, and if you're smiling more broadly each time you say it, get out and buy one right away! You won't regret it.

Let me comment on some of the posts above. First, I have gotten more attention from young women with my s2k than I deserve at age 60 (yes, that is my age, even though I can't get my board profile to stop showing that I was born in 1969 -- I wish!). Second, when the Porsche Boxter came out in 1998, I went to the local dealer and requested a test drive, dressed in my usual jeans and polo shirt. The dealer said "well we don't just let anybody test these". I said, "Oh, you want to make sure I have enough cash to buy one if I like it, right?" "Take me to your computer". I pulled up what was then my stock market portfolio which was then (but not now, damn it) in seven figures, asked him to look at it and said "may I have a test drive?" Of course, I got to drive it. I took it out and said "shouldn't we be going faster than this, given the throttle I've put to it?" Salesman said that I had to rev it to get performance, so I did, but still got too little go for the dough! Too bad, as I was ready to write the check and take her home, if she had just shown me some excitement. Instead, I had to wait a few years for the s2k to come out for that excitement, and I saved about $11,000 in the process.
My good friend and next door neighbor owns TWO Corvettes. An '02 and an '03 50th anaversary model. I've driven them. Great GT cars. If someone would build a four door that drove like them, I'd buy it. But to me, sports cars they are not.
Basically, if you are looking for a PURE sports car and some real driving excitement, and don't test drive an s2k, you are making a big mistake.
Hope this helps,
Richard
