Dude go to Mitchell's and have them repack the resonator... You can get that packing material.... IF that could fix it! It will not have the nice weld but it will do the job

I don't know who gave you that answer but we are the US wholesale distributor for ASM and we have never stated that. We have replaced many ASM 70mm Ti exhausts even though only a few were found to be defective. And of those defective ones, most were heavily raced and/or used aftermarket bushings that put excessive stress on the hangers.

We have refrained from posting in this thread because we are still collecting data from the claimed "defective" exhaust customers and working with ASM Japan to come up with a solution for the problem.

So far, the complaints have been rattling in the front resonator at certain RPMs at idle. It may be due to burned baffling material (fiberglass) that failed to get exhausted out of the resonator and is accumulating and making noise. Burning of baffling material happens with all mufflers and is why exhausts get louder over time. In the newer ASM 70mm exhausts, they have changed the design of the perforated inner pipe in the resonator. This piece is welded in during construction and used to be perforated the entire length of the resonator but now the perforated section has been shortened because the weld between the solid pipe and the perforated pipe is a common point of failure due to stress. Because of this, the solid ends of the inner pipe creates a trap within the resonator where burned baffling material can accumulate and rattle around.

That being said, if ASM deems that there is a manufacturing defect such as a broken weld or broken component, we are authorized to process all warranty claims. However, if you didn't purchase the item from us or one of our authorized dealers, then that the price you pay when you purchase grey-market parts.

Its not like these exhausts are being purchased in record numbers. I thought these were somewhat of a rarity. Bulletproof, GoTuning and Autobacs, maybe a few others. Why they wouldn't warranty any of these exhausts, non original owners excluded, seems like bad business to me.

I understand this is a wear and tear item, but pieces falling apart in less than 2 years is just poor construction. Minus obvious road/debris damage, if the exhaust is rattling it is defective. As a almost exclusive and premier S2000 parts designer I would expect nothing more than full co-operation from ASM.

Hope Tommy gets this resolved for all original owners. As a second hand owner of a Ti exhaust (non ASM) I know how these things happen. Shouldn't cost more than $200-300 to repair the exhaust. Small change for a exhaust costing 1200$+SS and 2k$+ for Ti.
