Yea I talked to some local shops and found a place that said that if I got the comptech, they could wrap the plastic piping (which was pretty much the only thing holding me back) in carbon fiber, so for the money, in my opinion that cant be beat if you like CF under the hood no hydrolock issues and good performance and sound even if its not quite the AEM V2, I think thats the route I'm gonna go. Thoughts on that? also any comments on the comptech hydrolocking with a vented hood?
Really any intake for the S will perform about the same as other intakes +/- 2-3 hp. Imo, saying you had an FIPK and then slapped on the V2 and noticed an amazing difference is nothing but the butt dyno. The AUT and FIPK is a solid combo. Zero risk of hydrolock, the hood shuts to actually seel it to make it a box-like intake, and the AUT plate dumps cooler air directly onto the filter.
Several of you have said to remove the "airbox restrictor''. I assume this is in the factory airbox but where exactly? Haven't had my car long so any help (photos)would be great - thanks.
I've been using the AEM V1 for almost 5 years now (actually it was the first modification). I did experience a slight stalling situation on 2 seperate occasions; the first was driving on a really hot and humid day in the morning when the dew is still everywhere, and the other was after going to a car wash using that "laser-wash" system, whereas I should have washed the S myself.
The OEM hood was installed and until about 1 hour ago I didn't realize that I should be plugging up the drain hole(s) and custom-fabricating an umbrella for the filter. Also, I didn't install the bypass valve but this season its all about to change.
Recently I purchased a Top Secret (vented) hood (comes with the rainguards) and will be fully aware of how the engine bay holds up with water.
I still think I made a good choice by going with the AEM so I recommend that for 2 things; Sound = and affordable performance.
(I've been wrapping the tubing to keep the air charge cooler also, like Silver9k.) Looks nice!
This is an older picture.
Sorry, no new photos until later this Spring.
Performance: Can't add anything new to what's been already posted.
Looks: Any CF intake.
Sound: PRM. No question about it. Next to ITB's, no other NA intake system can come close to the sound of PRM intake. I read about it and had a hard time believing it. But after getting one as my first mod. I was a believer. It has to be heard to be believed. I have J's intake now but still miss the sound of PRM.
