Dude, Cars would look awesome on a VHS player! ;iagree: animated films are digital from the get-go.
The sound in that movie begs for a quality sound system.
It's friggin'

Yes, lag is a problem for us DTV guys, too. You will be learn to deal with it. It's a penance to pay for HDTV programming, even though it lags looking for non-HD material, too. Chris, I told you, you will end up sacrificing much for that next hit off the HD crackpipe. It's begun.

I HATE THAT DAMN LAG!!!
With the older Cox cable service that I had, i was annoyed... I was hoping that switching to verizon would solve the problem. I was thinking that it might be the actual set top box causing problems. Cox had a Scientific Atlanta Explorer box... and I saw that Verizon Fios TV had a Motorola box. I figured that since Motorola is a brand name more known than Scientific Atlanta, it would perform better (eventhough I've never really liked other stuff from Motorola such as cel phones...). Boy was I wrong!!! The freakin Motorola set top sucks even more. Its slower, clunkier and glitchier (if thats even a word) than the Scientific atlanta box. IT DOESN"T EVEN HAVE SLEEP OR WAKE UP FEATURES!!!

I don't like the interface and I hate the slow response for EVERYTHING even moving the "cursor/option selection" is slow and retarded.... I can go on and on about its faults but I'll stop.
Basically, like Skip said, it seems that lag is a common problem for all set top boxes... hopefully they can address it in the near future so I can stop kirking out at my damn remote every day...

I don't have any set-top boxes... I'm DTV.

so it sucks with their boxes and without their boxes...
I really hope they do something about it.

Well, the Sharp is boxed up, we're heading to BB to exchange for the 5071... The rep there even called around to find a dealer with a 5070 to price match... But guess what? Nobody else sells Pioneer locally (except Elite, which Myer Emco has for $3999 vs. BB's $4350 or so). So, I'll save a few bucks off the Sharp ($3149 vs. $3399) and overall be much happier, I think - even with 720p/1080i vs 1080p
I can't justify the extra $850 for the 1140 Elite, for what - as much as I've been able to find - is a couple of features I wouldn't use anyway ("Media Gallery" and extensive ISF-capable calibration) and MAYBE a better image processor (but I've heard it's not really any different from the 5070).
Here we go. Wish me luck

Part of the problem(I think) is the feed itself. Another part may be the "handshaking" that takes place between the pieces. Maybe Ryan has a better explanation.
You're right its the feed ... One of the main reasons digital TV takes so long to switch channels is because of the digital stream, it takes a few seconds to get enough data that you can display the digital stream. Second reason is because the technology behind digital tv right now isn't advanced enough. From what I've seen, IPTV is the saving grace to the problem. I'm not sure about all the technological BS behind it but IPTV has shown the ability to channel surf almost as fast as in the old analog days. My guess is that they just buffer the previous and next channels for you so you don't need to wait a few seconds for the channel to buffer. I can't say for sure why they can't do this with cable or satellite now but again my guess would be because IPTV is a switched network design while cable and satellite is broadcast TV (IPTV sends only the channel you're watching while broadcast TV sends all of the channels you could potentially watch).
IPTV isn't too far off, I think FIOS has the capability to do it, and Microsoft has announced that their XBOX 360 will be IPTV capable by the end of 2007 with the only agreement right now with AT&T (most of our area is served by Verizon though I think).
As far as crappy receivers if you have DTV, the HR10-250 TIVO with the latest OS version (6.2b I think) is a really great receiver. It does not however have the capability to decode the new MPEG4 streams that come off the new DTV satellites. Unfortunately DTV in their infinite wisdom decided to end their agreement with TIVO, and so their new MPEG4 HD-DVR the HR20 kind of sucks.
If you've got the cash, the TIVO Series 3 should be really sweet as a set top box. I dont see it being any faster at switching channels but as far as an interface and all its great ... $12.95/month for service is kind of crappy though (The DirecTV HR10-250 is only $5.00 a month or free if you get their $100/month package).
