The Official Mid-A A/V Thread
Well, the 5071 is sitting in my living room. I don't really have the stuff I need to burn a DVD from a VIDEO_TS folder and don't own Nero to burn the VCD, so I guess I'll just watch 200 hrs of full-screen broadcast crap to do the burn-in.
Up close, the display doesn't look as detailed as the 1080P set I just returned, but the overall picture quality, color, black level, details, etc. certainly are nice. Not that the Sharp was especially lacking, but I think I'm going to like plasma
And of course, I'll be sitting here wondering about what that extra $850 for the Elite would have gotten me...

hmm i guess i will chime in.
i have the infocus screen play 7210. it is native to 720p. in high def mode (720p or 1080p) the picture quality is AMAZING. my PS3 games and blue ray looks incredibly sharp. i have been to the sony store where they play the blue ray movies and the ps3 on the huge expensive plasmas and lcd screens and i think that my projector provides a much crisper picture (i was pleasantly suprised).
i have a denon reciever, cant remember which one and my dvd player is a samsung, cant remember which one either. i do know the dvd player has an m1 output, so the dvd movies have great quality as well.
as for cable... its still the crappy digital cable w/no high def channels. cable looks incredibly shitty on the projector.

A projector is high on our wish list, it's just not practical for our setting... That'll have to wait for the next place or a huge windfall of cash that will allow me to use the projector on another wall or hidden screen, as needed, for those special movie-watching times

As far as MPEG-4, compression rates suck.
I get macroblocking way more often then i ever did before. Perhaps it's the number of hd channels gobbling up bandwidth or whatever, but it's annoying.
I have an H20 HD receiver in the bedroom and HR20-700S(HD DVR) in the theater room.

Chris, it is very likely that your current contrast ratio is much higher than your previous piece of crap!
That alone will make a viewing difference. And if you're that concerned over what an Elite would bring to the table, feel free to stop in at my house at any time. I got mine on sale for $5500 about 15 months ago.
