Here's an update for me...
The xbox cables I bought - returned. Luckily I didn't open them. I didn't realize that they didn't have an optical out for sound. I searched all over for the official MS High Definition AV Pack, which I found used at EB Games
The DVI-D/HDMI cable I bought - Too short! Because of the way the cable box is positioned compared to the tv and due to the stiffness of the cable, it won't reach.
I ordered a 6' one now.
I went over to my friend's last night who bought a Mitsu 65" 1080p TV. His SD channels looked worse than mine. I think it's got to do with how close you are to the TV more than anything.

maybe you guys can help me.
I have a pretty "complex" wiring for the TVs throughout my house.
Im gona have Direct TV, so I ran 4 RG6 coax cables to where Im gona have the sat. mounted. Then I ran individual runs to all the places I want TVs. Eventually I want to have 8 boxs installed. three of which are HD. (will Direct TV give me unlimited non-HD boxs? wheres the best place to purchase these, best kind of HD DVR boxs etc)
My basement eventually will have 4 TVs in it, powered by two HD boxs. One of which will be a DVR. The two boxs are gona to be mounted behind my bar and the 4 TVs are in different corners.
I have 3 coax cables running to where I want the boxs located. I have strings pulled to run additional wire from the boxs to the TVs, although some of the distances are long, like 30 feet. What type of wire should I get to connect the box to a tv thats that far away without spending alot of money?
anyone here know ALOT about Direct TV? Ive been in circles talking to the idiots at Circuit City, and even on the phone at Direct TV.

I have speakers mounted in my walls that came with the house when I bought it, not sure of the brand although I believe Circuit City had some similar looking ones on display. Harmon Kardon or Onkyo for sound is a good recommendation

Can I get some TV advice?
I may be in the market for a new TV. I don't want to spend more than $1,500 and that is to include a stand. 720p is fine, and I prefer projection (DLP). Because my sister still works at Best Buy enough to keep her discount, figure anything Best Buy carries will be about $500 off MSRP.
My current TV is a 51" Hitachi that I bought in 1999. It doesn't "need" to be replaced, but ever since I bought the XBOX 360 I've been a little "put off" by how bad the quality is when displaying text - I can't read it. I can't read credits at the end of movies too well, but when playing games I do need to read some of this stuff. If I hadn't bought a X360, a new TV purchase would have never entered my mind......but the wheels are spinning now.
Musts:
I haven't researched a TV in almost 10 years, and aside from the little bit I picked up touring Best Buy yesterday, I'm pretty clueless. I have no plans to pick up a PS3, and if DVD's go Blu-Ray only, I can worry about that bridge when it is built. I'm more concerned about the technology that is here and now......remember that I've been using decade old equipment, and it doesn't bother me.

Alex - Have you looked at using Avia or DVE (Digital Video Essentials)?
All tvs are set way too sharp out of the box, but for video games and a lot of white lettering, it is just too high and skews it. Sharpness should be set between 0 and 25%.
Other than that, if you're against Sony and within that $ range, stick with Mitsubishi DLP or Samsung DLP (if you want a newer entry). My .02
