Yeah, I've got a very good set of boston mains (LR) and the center is matched... just too big to use in the current setup ... I'll look further into the mounting options, but I was looking at the articulated Peerless and they all require 16" studs.

I think I paid $150 for my mount- Tweeter price-matched the internet pricing I found. After spending $5500 on a tv, I'd have been pissed had they not.

Oh I feel you there. But you're lucky to have the recessed TV. Considering mine would be surface-mounted, I really wanted something that didn't look so... industrial?

About $350 at various vendors:

You wouldn't see any of the mount(mine) except when viewing it from the extreme side. I believe the depth of my mount is 2". The one you posted is 2.5".

yes, but it would be regularly visible, as the wall it would go on turns a corner a few feet from where the TV would mount and that outside corner is open to the kitchen/dining/bar areas, offering a good view of everything along that brown wall.

see brown wall here:

I guess I am unable to see your point. If a slimmer mount that can be used on any width framing is worse off than a deeper mount that cannot be mounted on anything other than 16" on center, then I guess you have a quandry.

the point is that since you can see the mount without looking too hard, i want it to look "nice"

I guess I could get an adjustable one similar to what you have and paint it gloss black with some spray paint...

Do yourself a favor and go back out to the dept stores. See if they have any mounted. You will see that you will not see as much as you think. If you're worried about the color of the mount itself, I know you know how to use a can of spray paint.

You're looking at spending $350 on a mount that is bigger and can't be mounted on said wall, but hesitated buying a hi-def player for $450. You don't want to go beyond a $700 receiver.

Ever consider making a valance for the sides in matching black(assuming your panel is black)? The top portion would still be open to allow for adequate ventilation while hiding the hideousness that is the wall mount.

You added the "spray paint" remark after I started my response.
