it would be funny if there was a sign that said "Slow the F*** Down", you could put flashing yellow lights over it (like a school zone speed limit sign)

Alrighty, let me clarify this for ya. Let me use another example for you. Let's say you are charged with a drug offense. You are caught with cocaine. They use the evidence (cocaine) in court. Now are they going to send you the cocaine back to you after court is done? Um.. no. It's an illegal product. The same goes in VA. Radar detectors are illegal. If you are a current resident in VA you will not receiving that radar detector back after all is said and done.

Now let's flip the coin to an out of state person. You will get the radar detector sent back to you via mail, but you will have to pay for shipment. And no, it's not a C.O.D type of delivery. It must be paid for upfront. So in addition to the court fee's, fines, and all the rigamarol, now you have to arrange payment with the police dept sending you back your radar detector. Have fun arranging that. That's the last thing on the clerks agenda for the day.

I understand that code section you found makes it look like you receive all the evidence against you, but it isn't necessarily true. It's valid in some instances but not in others.
I can't find any reference to the statute that says that possession of a radar detector is a crime. I see that use and sale are illegal, but not possession. Do you happen to know what statue covers that?

Being that the item is illegal for sale for use in a motor vehicle in VA, it is illegal for posession in VA in a motor vehicle. You can carry a radar detector in your hand if you'd like and you'd be ok. But we are talking about being in possession of the detector in the vehicle. That's what this pertains to. The police are not going to confiscate the radar detector with you walking down the street with it in your hand. That would be plain stupid. I don't think I need to explain that you use the reference as if it pertains to everyday life and usage, like eating and walking. We are talking about vehicles and possession of it in a vehicle. You can nit pick at the law as much as you like. It's not going to change the facts of the matter.

I guess you could always to try to bring up the Radio Act of 1934 (or that might be the Communications Act of 1934) which states that ALL citizens have the right to receive any and all radio signals and radar is a radio signal. However, I don't think you'll get very far w/ it in court.

Like Peter says, you can nit pick all you want, but the law will not change and you will get your detector confiscated.

My question would be, what technology is used in Va for the radar detector detectors. Do they use VG2? or Spectre? and if it is Spectre, what version of it?
Hopefully it's either VG2 or Spectre III as I have an X50.

See here:

Spectre: http://www.radarbusters.com/support/speedl...spectre-rdd.asp
