Default Maintenance costs

Hi
Am in the process of organizing my cash balance etc. for buying a 2006 or 2005 S2k. Wanted to know how much should i budget for regular monthly maintenance.

Any thoughts on whats better 29K for a '06 model or 27K for '05...

thanks

I would recommend seeing and driving the cars to decide which one is better. It would seem that the '05 with lower mileage might be the best deal, but you do not know the condition of the car or what it was used for. Did they track it? how often. It might have been owned by a little old lady from Pasadena who only drove it on Sunday's.......at the drag races..........
You have to get up close to the car and determine its condition.

As far as maintenance, on newer cars, oil changes will more than likely be your major expense. Barring mechanical or accident damage.

Good luck with your seach, its a great car.

the S is actually pretty cheap in to maintain... outside of the standard oil changes and rear wheel replacements, nothing much else.. a lot of the work you can do or someone on this forum can help with.

Tires seem to be the biggest expense. Rears last 10-15k miles and fronts about twice that.

Agree tires is biggest expense. My 01 just had an IAC valve replaced at 50k miles for ~$300 bucks. Daily driver and first real repair. Instead of trading, I just bought 4 new tires and wheels from Tirerack and a can of wax.

Still loving this car like the day I bought it, only with a few more wrinkles (on us both).

I have a 2000 s2k with 80k on the clock... here is a comprehensive list of fixes (not including TSB's and oil/gas/etc). This is from memory as the log is in the car, but its pretty close.

15k - Tires - rears only - $300
Stereo - $150
Air filter K&N - $45
30k - Tires - $600
Cabin Airfilter
45k - Tires - rears only - $300
- Snow tires - $500
75k - Tires - rears only - $300
- Brakes - Stage 2 upgrade (didnt really need it) ~ $600
78k - Top - $600

And that's it. My 2nd gear synchro is a bit ropey which is typical for the early ones. I am waiting until i need a clutch and will have the tranny rebuilt at the same time. I plan on keeping mine for a while, I don't see anything on the road that makes me jealous enough to have a car payment again. Not the fastest thing on the road (EVO's STI's etc) but they also have roofs, which in my book makes a difference.

'00 S2K owned from ~8k to ~44k miles.

The ONLY maintenance related things I've spent money on were fluids for engine, tranny, differential, clutch. It's been a completely care free ownership experience.. a freaking huge difference coming from Italian and German cars Nothing has broken. Nothing has reached its suggested lifetime. I run snow tires so the rears are still kicking (just barely.. I should have bought new summer tires this season but I DIDNT!! )

You should also know that in MY06 they added traction/stability control. If your not comfortable with RWD it might not be a bad idea.
