you might also want to consider a hybrid. basically its got thicker tires than a road bike, but not as big as a mountain bike. It does neither as well, but you can do both better than the other can do its opposite.

 

took a different route through the bville mountains and had to turn around. When the sign said the bridge is out, they really meant it...

 

Got my ride in today 90 miles, starting at 5.30. Friendly reminder, wear your helmets! I dropped the bike today due to some water and wet leaves.. good times

 

nice to see some cyclist on the forum. I was a big mountain biker years back and used to hit Lake Minnewaska state preserve right outside of new paltz and stillwell/greenbelt in Long Island.

My ride is a Specialized Epic dual suspension with Brain Technolology. LOVE IT!!

 

Never had a chance to experience that suspension, but from what I hear, it really is an amazing thing.

The brain technology is the best. I started off with a hard tail than switched to a full suspension but hated the fact that part of my pedaling force was being absorbed by the rear shock and not into the wheels which was especially noticable on climbs. I test road the Epic in the off season and put that sucker on lay-away. It cost me 1850 .. people thought I was crazy for paying that much for a bike but ITS SOOOOOOO WORTH IT and really not that expensive if you are really into mountain biking.


I am thinking of picking up a road bike but... I lost touch with the cycling world ever since I had to hold down 3 jobs a few years back and all my ridding buddies got married or lazy. Now that I am down to one job I think I can make it happen soon.

 

Make it happen man... you got a few people on here, including myself, that you can ride with.

I've been doing small rides here and there during the week (only about 23 - 25 miles), but I've been too busy to do anymore than that, which kind of stinks.

but that's one sick looking bike

 

This picture left me thinking a little bit... how is it riding this bike when it is windy out... especially a side wind.

Not too bad, you only feed the crosswind if is above 25 mph. I rode 100 miles on that setup along the hudson to practice side wind control without any issues. If I were a little lighter I would be worried but even at a decent cross wind I don't feel it that bad.
