Anybody complete the P90x program?
vadar, were you really fit when you were young? hows your family tree look ? many forget that although this program is made for the masses, you still need dam good genetics for it to work as well as it has for him. his before pics wouldn't have been that bad at all IMO. if you start out at 200+, theres no way youd be able to get to his state with just P90x without a killer diet and some harcore cardio.
But kudos for you vadar. i wish i had genes like that =\ in HS i was went from 130 to 150 and balloned up to 240lbs + in the 3 yrs that followed after. I just recently came back down to 180 with a hard diet, 5+ days in the gym, and consistent cardio for the past 6 months and im STILL in the high teens for BF% Right now, youd probably be in the low teens.

Great results!
I'm in the first week of the last phase, and am looking forward to getting finished. I'm thinking that after it all, I'll probably workout 3-4 times/week w/ all the "weight lifting" days as I call them (legs and back, chest and shoulders, etc.), but just rotate them through kind of like the 3rd phase does from week to week. Also, throw in a "cardio" type day 1 time a week (kenpo, cardio X, etc.). I figure with doing that it should be a good way to maintain the results and even see further improvements.
I'm wanting to do more of the lifting days because I don't think I can afford to lose more weight (although I'm a sticklar now w/ my diet as a result of this, so I guess that's a good thing!). I'm 6'2" and started only at 175, now I'm down to 165 and don't want to go any lower than that, I'd like to even add weight w/ muscle bulk in the future if possible. I can see the outlines of a 6 pack though for the first time since high school, so I'm happy about that! ;-)

I have worked out since I was about 20 and have a gym in my house with a full dumbell rack, Hoist V3 with leg press, and a plate loaded bench press machine and 300 pounds of plates. I use all of that equipment, but had been straying and doind about 1-2 workouts a week for the last year instead of the 4 or 5 I had been doing. I was getting some love handles and a little gut.
My parents are fat little munchkins who do not exercise.
I primarily would just do bench press, some tri work and some pull downs and weak curls. (I HATE curls) BUt I have not had any real results for about 5 years. Declining fitness. At times I thought i was working out hard, but I did not know what a tough one hour workout was until I started the program. Do as much as you can and they will kick your butt.
I really noticed the most change in my legs and back, two areas I dont really work ever but are stressed in the program. The program really does not neglect ANYTHING its a total body kind of thing.
While I had problems sticking to the diet I had no trouble doing the workouts every day. Some times I hated it, but got to crave the voice in my head that said "Don't be such a p*ssy. You come this far, keep going. You don't want to waste all the work you have put in so far. Don't let the work beat you."
Doing the workouts everyday never became an issue. And my wife had done the program a year ago. (No, I don't have her after pics.
) And I really did destroy my before pic, I did not like the way I looked. My cardio sucked at the beginning, I paused the tapes a lot because I could not catch my breath. Maybe 4 or 5 pause per cardio tape at the beginning. Now on plyo sometimes I pause it once to catch my breath or shake out some crampyness.
I have been bigger a few times in my life but never stronger. I could not believe the strength I added in my late thirties, I did not think it was possible and thats a tribute to the program. I started doing sets of 8 pullups and ended at about 21 pullups per set. In one of the workouts I do about 150 pullups inside of an hour.
I am basically an average guy who is now forty and was in maybe slightly better than average shape and was able to get some good results. I think that means anyone can. I have had one major shoulder surgery and knee surgery which gave me a little extra challenge at times, but the two problem areas got MUCH stronger in the end.
I would encourage anyone thinking about it to give it a try. Its worth the $120, the sell it a beachbody.com. My wife is buying "Insanity" from them next which is more of just a cardio fat shredder 60 day program and I will do that next, but that might be more for some that want to do less weight lifting.

If you do try this program and then go back to wieght lifting or whatever you usually do, I think most people will still pull out the random favorite workout and do it once in a while because they are so well thought out. The "Chest and Back" and the "Chest SHoulders and Triceps" are great and I plan to revisit them often.

Ok a little background, I probably lost about 7-8 pounds total. It started to melt off at first, but then I was getting to hungry and started eating like a pig for about the last month. I coule have lost another pound or two had I had more will power, but you just burn so much energy doing the workouts that I needed FOOD.

You are/have been physically active through out the years. The 5 years of no results may be because of your workout program. you need variety to keep the body stimulated. nonetheless, your body type is the target candidate for p90x IMO. even where i am at, im not ready for any of that. you said you were an average or slightly above average guy in the physcal department when you started, yet you did 8 pullups a set. i can say without a doubt in my mind that any average or even slightly above average person on this forum couldnt do 8 pullups to save their lives, much less multiple sets of these.
i know plenty of people who have stuck to this program for months, yet have just lost only a little weight (probably a diet issue) but, again, id like to say congrats and im jealous as hell
maybe if i reach my goal or get slightly close, ill post my before and after pics here
on a side note, if you havent heard of animal flex, look it up. it'll help out with your joints
Great results Vader!
I thought mine were good but not nearly as good as yours and I'm 27!
I didn't stick to the diet at all and I started around the same time frame as you, my biggest areas of improvements were shoulders and triceps and slimmed down in my gut.
I went on my trip to Cancun which is why I started and was pretty happy with the results and my gf really took notice. Everyone has been commenting that either I've slimmed down our my arms look bigger.
I got back a few weeks ago and I'm going to start the program over again and try to keep a better diet and not miss as many of the workouts as I did before.
And like the rest of you, in the 90 days I only did yoga once and did kenpo x instead which is really hard for me but I have a fun time doing it.
After seeing my results my gf wants to get insanity, I don't know if that will happen because she just bought a treadmill 2 days ago which I told her will eventually turn into a clothes hanger like mine.
