i am currently working with an auditor who grew up in Chinatown (NYC). She has okay Engrish, but often I have no clue what she is asking.
Is that very frustrating to her? it is frustrating to me. She went to a decent school and works for a pretty good Accounting firm but damn.... almost every time she asks me something.....after she asks 2-3 times trying to swap words around..... I say "I have no idea what you are asking me"
I am sure I would suck if someone dropped me off in Mexico City so I guess I should just be happy that I eventually figure out what she wants.????

To quote, "I barely have time to scratch my balls and I damn sure do not have the time to play English teacher to someone under tight deadlines. Take them off the job."
So is the firm D&T, PwC, KPMG or E&Y? I'll take D&T for $300 Alex.

why pick on the immigrants?
there are plenty of people born in USA who can't speak English properly.
I'm an immigrant and I can say that my command of English is better than at least 75% of people born here.
I see spelling/grammar mistakes in every single thread.
Like Jackie Chan said in "Rush Hour", let's see how well Chris Tucker speaks Mandarin.
Also, How many American speak more than one language?

You could do what my friend does when his company's outside auditors send in an ESL auditor. He calls up the partner and tells them to send him someone he can understand or they won't be their auditors much longer.

Yes, education.
There's my education shining though
My head was a little cloudy. I think that's great that they're associated with those sorts of intellectual careers. The problem up in Toronto and where I live now is that the accent overshadows the intelligence for many people and companies look for "North American Experience." It's code for "don't send me an immigrant.
