Sorry, I always carry my Glock 27 as I do not enjoy bringing a knife to a gun fight...

Sog Flash 2

And btw, bringing a knife to a gun fight is better than not bringing anything. Though, I would also have to favor my Glock as well.

I'd rather carry my knife because guns are too final.

Interesting - that's the reason that I have been carrying a pistol concealed for over 10 years now.

Besides - knives are horrible self-defense tools. If you carry one for protection, start now with being able to respond when you're cut - and cut badly, because that's what happens in all knife fights. Everyone gets cut. How you deal with the physical impact (losing a lot of blood) as well as the psychological impact (OMG - look at ALL of this blood I'm losing!) and continuing the fight is key to whether you live...or die. Oh, and this is if you're trained.

If you're carrying a knife for protection and you don't know what you're doing, sooner or later this is going to get you in a jam that you're going to find yourself hard-pressed to get out of.

Anyway, BOT. The knife currently in my pocket is a Benchmade AFO automatic. Not the best, but it holds an edge pretty well, and since I can carry it legally, I figured why not?

Next knife purchase (whenever that is) - Strider SMF

I never leave the house without one, but then again, I'm usually never without a pistol either.
Its meant for more of a deterrent. In other words, if someone pulls a gun out on me and my family, I really dont have alot of options at that point (depending). If someone approaches us in a threatening manner I can just whip my switch out. I am very good with my knives including my butterfly knives and have used them in the past. Guns are good for some people, just not me when I'm with my kid or at chucky cheese or something. I feel more comfortable keeping the shotty at home and the knife for when i'm not home.

Benchmade something or other. It's a few years old. Next would be a Strider SMF.

ditto, if you pull out a knife and the other guy(s) pull out his/theirs, you are in for some serious shxt and probably nobody will be leaving without bleeding

and if you are not WELL train for using knife as a defense weapon, you will get yourself in more trouble than you may think. what if in the fight and your knife came lose, the other picked it up. and now you are screwed.

and on the legal side, you have to deal with self-defense with lethal force vs excessive force. you don't just say "that guy was trying to attact me and drop him with knife" and you walk free. you have to deal with all the situational evidence and legal use of lethal force for self defence. and you'd better know a good lawyer if you think want to carry/use a knife for self defence.

if you are in trouble, you best bet is to walk away. better yet, run away. most likely you will regret it if you pull out a knife and try to be tough.

IMO, if you are not trained to use a knife for self defence, the a pen, thick book or magazine, or even a bright flashlight (yes, i have been brain washed by Surefire ... LOL) is a better self defence tool in the right situation.

for me, i use my folder (folding knife) as a tool. i usually carry a folder with 3" blade or under, and i would clip nothing over 3.5" in my pocket. i also carry leatherman (wave, charge, skeletool) with or in place my folder

you also have to check with your local city and state regulation and see what the knife law is.

This man knows what he's talking about...

Guns or knives are more likely to put you in graver situations than if you didnt have one. Think about it.

If live in a place were you need to carry a gun or a knife for protection...move.
