my basic rule (with some exceptions, obviously) is if i can tell the girl just expects me to pay without second thought...then i let her contribute. if when the check comes she instinctively goes for her purse, then i'll always pay.

i enjoy paying, especially if i've enjoyed the company; what i don't enjoy is someone who expects a free night out on the town.

it also annoys the sh1t outta me when, when the check comes, she (any girl, first date, girlfriend, whatever) says "do you want me to get mine?" if it's a first date, then no, i've probably asked you out; don't insult me by asking if i want you to get yours. if it's a girlfriend...how many times have i paid for yours? you really don't think you could pick up the whole thing every once in a blue moon?

i dunno...rant over. i would rather pay, i just want it to be appreciated.

 

agree... nothing worse than a girl just *expecting* it. at least make the effort to offer or go for the purse... i won't say yes to it, but come on. i've had quite a few first dates..and 2nd... where they just act like 'well of course you're paying.'
