Perhaps there ought to be a law.

Aren't the origins of shorthand typing Internet forums, instant messaging, and cell phone text messaging?

Aren't these all privileges enjoyed by people with higher economic status? So, how could bashing on shorthand typing be the rich bringing down the poor when rich kids are the ones that invented the "language"?

Hmm, I'm smelling an IBTL coming on. . .

PLYRS 3 is leading up to what I think, is the point (funny, he's in what industry again? ):

It's the subtle Art of Communication. In this context, it's the printed word. Until shown otherwise, it's pretty much assumed that you ARE what you print. . . right?

Communication is communication. It doesn't matter the medium.

If you want to be understood you need to speak/type/whatever in a clear fashion. U haven't been.

Regardless of what you feel SHOULD happen, the real world says otherwise. Impressions matter. People constantly are taking the measure of the people around them. It doesn't stop at first impressions. YOU judge people all the time. You think people who care enough to spell and write proper english are rich, white, assholes. If that isn't a judgement call then I don't know what it is.

In a medium that has the written word as the ONLY way to judge the poster you "dern well" better make an attempt to appear to be something other than a buffoon or people will take you for a buffoon.

It sounds like you just want to justify your laziness or lack of education - whichever is your real problem.

You don't have to be perfect, only show that you are trying to respect your readers and work to get your points across with a limited amount of miscommunication. Learn from your misteaks and learn from the mistakes of others. (misteaks was misspelled on purpose just as ASSinine was mispelled on purpose)

no, the origins of shorthand typing is from lazy people and ghetto folk like myself with broken keyboards.

shorthand is different from simplified language.

complex language in laws is created to keep the poor down. there is a group that acually advocates that all laws should be written in simple language.

shorthand is just for the lazy/efficient.

1. Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.

Take the time to invent fresh, powerful images.
But whatever you do, when you invent these fresh, powerful images, make sure that they're not, fresh, powerful metaphors, similes, or figures of speech.
