Whatever you said?

Remember, you started the thread. You asked for opinions and you got them. It's a real shame no one's agreeing with you.

This is an interesting post.

If your "shorthand" is not rooted in laziness, why do you use it? I'd really like to know. What is your argument against typing things properly and communicating clearly?

no one? try re-reading.

ur right, i asked for opinions, but i can't have a discussion with people who are shortsighted and can't listen to/make reasonable points. there is no point in continuing.

it's faster to type and easier to read (at least i think it is) so that it can better simulate a verbal discussion. typing and reading is slower than when people speak to each other, correct? it helps the momentum of the virtual conversation.

Internet shorthand is not a big deal. Internet slang is annoying. I use shorthand alot in Text messaging on my phone because typing on the qwerty keyboard is a PITA.

Wow, its amazing how a topic on being formal has turned into such a childish thread.

In before the lock - IBTL

I hope this pleases both views.

Inquiring minds want to know!!

As obviously your "shorthand" isn't easier to read as you claim.

"ur right, i asked for opinions, but i can't have a discussion with people who are shortsighted and can't listen to/make reasonable points. there is no point in continuing."

Just appears to be the equivalent of taking your bat and going home since no one agrees with you.

I love this thread. It's very entertaining.I dont use shorthand when typing on the web personally because; well im just not lazy and im apparently not hip to the whole internet lingo thing.I also just dont want to be perceived as an idiot and believe that spelling everything out gets your point across alot better.I personally dont waste my time on posts that are all abbreviated and typed in slang..it confuses me and i dont have time to try and figure out what it is your attempting to say.I can try to understand both points of view on this topic.Example: At work we are "encouraged" to use abbreviations because "corporate" believes it may be more proficient. There is even a list of words with the approved abbreviations that are to be used.HOWEVER..people still get lazy and make up thier own abbreviations/shorthand for certain words and it has made things more difficult and takes longer to figure out what someone is trying to say.If they had just spelled it out instead of trying to cut corners....we would actually be more proficient than we are now.Words like FTW,FTL are in my opinion acceptable but only because they have been used so much that everyone knows what that means. But to type everything in shorthand....well like said above, you will be perceived as lazy and uneducated. To be technically correct though.....Only about 10% of this entire country(thats a gestimate of course)uses "grammatically correct"english anyway.I'll end here before i touch on the whole english with race/cultural thing. That I could talk for days about.Again this is all IMO!

It makes things easier for people to read when you know how to type correctly.
