Which side is liberal or conservative? I'm having a hard time figureing this one out myself. I'd like to know how I'm coming across, being "the man" I'm assuming conservative. Conservative-Support the troops - kid should talk to his mother. Liberal - the man is keeping us down support the kids. Common sense to me is the kid didn't get in trouble for talking on the cell phone to his mother in Iraq. Anyone with two brain cells would understand his want/need to talk to his mother that he hasn't seen.

Now this isn't fact, just how I can see it playing out. My guess the teacher took a strong tone knowing this kid is a loose canon and said get off the phone now. Maybe the teacher went so far as to grab the phone and hang up on the call even as the kid was saying it was his mother. All the teacher heard was blah blah whine whine I'm going to try to get away with breaking the rules. This teacher had enough of the crap for whatever reason. The kid goes balistic, because this person just hung up on his mother that he hasn't seen in ages. He swears but that's not enough for a ten day suspension maybe he throws some shit or just keeps it up maybe he gets a little too heated. I understand why this kid would be mad say if the teacher hung up the phone on his mother. I'd be pretty pissed too, I think we all would. However I wouldn't go so far that the teacher would take me to the principle and not so far that the principle would issue a ten day suspension. So I have to think that the principle did this for a good and just reason. I'm going to have to give the benifit of the doubt to the teachers and principles of our schools rather then letting the prisoners run the jail house.

This is all opinion means nothing but that. I'll debate my side all day long. I don't think your an idiot if you don't agree. I can also see some scenarios where I'd side with the kid, but I can't based on what I've read. I have to assume an adult has more ability to reason than a child. I know there are a few adults out there that lack even 1/2 of what MOST kids have as far as maturity, but I have to say the chips are stacked in favor of the adults running our schools.

Now as for the facts, that were easily discredited, being thrown around in an attempt to obscure my opinion well that's what happens when people get frustrated.

Well, in the end we are coming from two opposite ends of the spectrum. I am a product of the Florida school system. My insight on this topic is soley based on my experiences in the 2nd worst public school system in the country (at the time) where as some people might have come from better or worse areas. My oppinion conflicts with those of Excel because of my interaction with the unsatisfactory use of pointless rules and regulations.

In my old high school I dealt with teachers and administrators who TOLD me that the school system was nothing more than a baby sitting firm. What the hell was I suspost to learn from that statement?! That kind of attitude pisses me off. Also, because the state's voting basis was composed of the elderly school budgets were constantly cut leading to massive amounts of overcrowding and corruption. Schools also were denied new computers, updated libraries, new classes, more class rooms, better teachers, a more flexible circiculum, and even paint to cover up the grafedi . Politicians used us to further political agendas, boundary lines, standardized testing, the Gordon rule, ect. Hell we were taught to pass one test all four years of highschool (FCAT).

These problems are only a drop in a bucket compared to the hundreds of millions of problems in our old public schools. I am not attempting to make a "emotional" statement here however I am simply explaining how people like Mav and myself fell when a topic like this comes up. It agervates us when people also say that it is immaturity that leads us to complain about everything because in reality things were and still are bad here. Rules like these are like nats at a BBQ. On top of all of the problems this little son of a bitch just bugs the hell out of us.

As for the tables, they may be acurate nation wide but remember that different states, counties, and schools are better or worse that others. With that being said it may be the case that a large percentage of these reported cases happen only in certain areas.

It is just that this topic is just so annoying because it was just so common back in school.
Unqualified teacher goes on a power trip.
Exaggerates the situation to the principle.
Kid always is believed to be wrong.
Kid tries to speak out.
Kid suffers because his ass just got sent home for 10 days.
This may not be the case BUT in my mind it is the most likely.

Sorry to hear how bad the florida school system is.

It should be one of the top priorities of any government.
