yes i'm ashamed we have people like that.

they're selfish people who cares about nobody but their well being..

and people in military dont have the luxury of calling their child anytime they want.. they get limited time to call and they can't call whenever they want.

you people would be speaking a different tone of you son/daughter/father/mother were in uniform in combat area right now...

so dont give the kid that crap about not following the rules..

it was the school's staff who gave the kid a hard time... he/she should have understood that the kid has a parent who's serving for their country. the least they could do them is send them elsewhere so they can finish the conversation and then come back to class. it isn't that hard. and at 17years old, its not like the kid is gonna run off and quit school for the day.

the kid wasn't disrupting the school's learning system. he went away from the crowd to have a nice conversation with the mother.. then a staff told him to hung up without even listening to his request to leave him peace with his mother.

and another things school system sucks now is the outdated policies...

ahemm...

you may not go the the bathroom whenever you want and must ask for permission..

(90% of the request are denied by instructors)..

see how bullshit that rule is?

Yeah I know what you mean about the bathroom stuff. In the past, I've had to threaten teachers that I would piss on the floor in order for them to let me go to the stupid bathroom for 2 minutes.

so much for the following the rules and regulation bullshit..

i thought high school institution is a place to teach young people how to be good citizens so they can live proper in society.. i guess this school's policy isnt so.

they'd prefer immoral people and disrespect instead.. that kid did the right thing..

i hope whoever is running the school gets defamatize for this.. they deserve it

Having a brother who served in Iraq.. i DEFINETLY know how hard it is to try to get a call from him. He'd try to figure out good time when we were home.. but when he called it was as if NOTHING else was going on around us. This just frooze.

It's especially hard when someone has to deal with a family memeber in a different country in very violent situations. This kids MOTHER is over there. I would have done the same damn thing if I was him. Don't care who the hell was around me... I would want to talk to my mom. All we know is that the teacher says the kid used profanity, but what we don't know is in WHAT WAY did the teacher tell the kid to get off the phone? Maybe the Teacher was being a total @$$hole about it. We don't know that aspect.

This situation is different than if it was Little Bobby talking to his gf or friends on the other line.. or saying Mom pick my up after school. His mother is gone for over a year.. in IRAQ, who knows if the mother will even come back. Good question will be (god forbid) but what if the mother dies in combat, I'm sure the school will sure feel like $h*t.

So what would happen if instead of not only using profanity, the kid punched the teacher? Is the teacher deserving of that too?

I'm not against the kid. Just trying to gain perspectives from both sides. I enjoy the educated debates.

Thats totally on a different level.

ALSO... profanity was used in the office later... not to the actual teacher... and it might have been a simple "THIS IS BULLSHIT!"

The confrontation Wednesday began after the 17-year-old junior got a call at lunchtime from his mother
And the call was during lunch...I mean enforcing the policy makes sense if he got it in the middle of class. But is he disturbing the other students' lunches??!

The teachers and administrators need to think about what's the purpose of the rules in the first place and not just blindly follow them because they're there. It's called using your BRAINS.

I don't know abut Georgia, but down here in Texas, we are allowed to have our phones on campus and in classes, but they must be off. Needless to say, all of out phones are on vibrate, not off.

You guys are absolutley right, if some teacher told me to get off the phone when it was my mom over in Iraq, I'd tell her to shove it. There is no way on God's green earth that you are going to pry me away from the possible last conversation with my mother.

U.S. soldiers do get special treatment, they are willingly risking there lives over there, so until you step up to the plate, I dont even wanna hear about, special treatment this, special treatment that....

God Bless The Armed Forces

I know how crappy teachers can be, and if they tell you to do something and you refuse, even nicely... they will be a dick. If I got a call from my mom during lunch and a teacher told me to hang up, I would have told her straight up, "Sorry, this is my mom over in Iraq, I'm not going to hang up. If you want to give me paperwork, go ahead."

I side with the kid on this one.
