Cedric,

I know when I was booking bands and working promotions at University of Houston we had to consider security at all of our events. It was basically a formula, for every xx students/attendee you were required to have x officer(s). We paid the University Police for the service, they were paid their normal salaries from the police department. However, I don't know if this is different in the "real" world here in the states. I would be curious if anyone know's for sure what the procedure actually is.

JRM,

I know..... Just wondering how Off-duty police officers (dressed in their uniforms) can work at clubs, parking lots etc... and get paid by the owners of said place and not be a 'conflict' of interest...

I don't know, unless their payment was donated to the city. I've seen this done before. But direct payment is an absolute no! For instance. If I'm called for jury duty in a state court I would have to donate the jury money or wave payment. I could not take both. I really can't answer this directly because I not aware of all the circumstances behind the employment. Anything that I might suggest would be a best guess.

It's important for an officer to remain incorruptible even at the expense of his own money earning ability. It's a tough demanding life, but one of great personal rewards. But it is also one of average to lower wage earning. I've always had the utmost respect for those officers that constantly day in and day out sacrifice their lives for others without so much as a thank you. Or the liberty to engage in other self employment.

Enough of my soap box. Whatever happens in this instance at least you have a better understanding and I've had a chance to truthfully explain.

Cheers

Jeff
