I thought you got "screwed" because you wanted to upgrade two weeks early and AT&T wouldn't let you.
You are kinda right..... I could've upgraded to ANY OTHER phone besides the Iphone which makes no sense to me or most of the people I talk to. I still say that's screwing a very longtime customer... contract or not.

I've been with AT&T in one form or another since '99. As a 10 year customer I will say that their CS is the same as anywhere else: completely dependent on the mood of the person you get on the phone. That being said I no longer deal with anyone between age 30-65 when I'm doing any kind of shopping. Young people and retirees (that don't need the money) always seem the most happy with their job and eager to please customers. You really can't judge the company on this metric because it seems like with huge companies CS is pretty much garbage.

Service for me was fine when we lived in the city. When Cingular became AT&T the dropped calls skyrocketed. Then we bought a home in the 'burbs last year and our service is TERRIBLE. They want $175 per line to cancel my plan even though I've been with them forever. I've canceled internet on our phones because I never have 3G, bought a house line because we don't have solid service @ home, and have reduced our minutes to the minimum. They will be fired in February due to the lack of coverage and I won't hire them again, even if we move, because of the $175 per line crap.

Verizon phones seem to have the biggest network and don't drop calls for our area. I will miss rollover minutes as I haven't had an overage since its inception. Next phone will be the cheapest phone with the biggest antenna that Verizon has!

Im a Verizon Wireless sales rep so I know for a fact that ATT plans are basically a mirror image of Verizon's plans. I dont know why everybody is saying either one is so expensive. Yes they are the generally more expensive than Sprint or TMOB but you get what you pay for. If you want shitty coverage then go get sprint. If you want a phone that works, go with a real carrier.
Honestly, with free roaming, I use AT&T/Verizon towers whenever there aren't Sprint ones available--which is very rare where I live. After having most of the providers available today, sans Verizon (though I have a number of friends with Verizon, and they hate the customer service)... I am much happier with Sprint, and yes, it's cheaper too. Personally, I don't know how you can, with a clean conscience, pretend Verizon is such a higher class (with your "get what you pay for" comment) institution--there's something about their stores, style, customer service, etc, that screams low-rent to me. I guess I've always just thought "meh" about the company.

one thing i do agree about what you guys said though is that you get what you pay for, you want shitty service, go with a no-name company. you want good reliable service go with a real carrier.

i complain a lot about att but their service is pretty good, it doesnt live up to their advertising campaign but its pretty darn good compared to others in our area ie tmobile, ghettro pcs, etc.
