Tongue ring on girls...
Oh yeah, tongue rings don't hurt. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being extremely painful, tongue rings usually rate in the 3-4 area. It's the days afterward that are more uncomfortable than anything due to swelling.
As for nipple rings, they hurt bad. They rate in the 7-8 range. After they did my first one (no, they wouldn't do them at the exact same time to make it easier on me), I almost didn't want them to finish. But I didn't want just one nipple ring. To me, that looks odd. If you're going to pierce the nipples, do them both.
Luckily, it was the first one that hurt more than the second one. Those who had it done said the second one hurts more than the first, but in my case, the rush of endorphins must have eased the pain after the first one.
I remember that when they did it, I had to lay there for a minute and ask them to put the fan on me! I thought I was going to pass out. I've also heard that it hurts more for guys than for girls. I'm not sure if that's true, as the women I've known that had pierced nipples said it hurt pretty bad.
But is it worth it? Sometimes. Mine are very, very sensitive. So they get easily irritated by things. And for some reason, people like to hit you in the chest often. And I've had many friends tap me on the chest and hit my nipple rings. Or I've had things hit me accidentally when working out or messing around. Ouch. I've also had my dog jump on me and catch his claw in one of the hoops, ripping the ball out. Talk about pain.
I've had them for almost three years, and the only time people know I have them is if they see me at the pool or beach. They do get many looks and stares, but I'm pretty used to it now. Girls seem to be intrigued by them.

I'm personally indifferent to tongue piercings, but voted "yes". If you want to do it, then do it. Who the hell cares what other folks think. It doesn't matter what you do, someone is always going to crap on you for it, that's just a fact of life.
For what it's worth, I have tattoos and some ear piercings (no longer wear earrings in them though), and my girlfriend is considering getting her tongue pierced. You only get to live once, and life is too short to care about the opinions of a bunch of random strangers.

WTF's a "tongue ring?"
If you are talking about a pierced tongue, I have to say, nothing is as fun as kissing a girl with tongue stud. And as for your survey, if you goal is impressing as many people on this site with your pedestrian nature, then do as they say, otherwise do what you want. Do you think it looks cheap? Are you just trying to be as cool as the people you've seen with it? Or do you want to see if you like it? It heals in no time, so it isn't like it isn't reversible. You might want plastic balls on the ends of the barbell to avoid chipping your teeth, however - clear ones make the stud pretty much invisible if they don't know you have it.

I'm getting a tattoo too.
I never wanted one until recently. I'm still not sure what it'll be. Most likely something symbolic that represents something about me or something that is important to me. It'll most likely be a symbol or tribal in nature.
I'll put it on the middle of my upper back below my traps. Nothing too big. Easily hidden in most cases so that it doesn't look trashy or interfere with my professional life.
I'm thinking of doing it on my trip to Hawaii in July, as my girlfriend used to live there and had hers done there. Her tatoo artist is well known, and is highly recommended.
