Not me...Im on your side of the fence here. If you want it, go for it. Im sure people would discourage my tattoo on my elbow, but i dont care. If you like it, get it. Calling girls with tongue rings sluts, is stereotyping. Just so we're clear!

I don't see tongue rings as being any different from the countless other things in life that serve no vital or useful purpose. Why have colorful clothes? They don't insulate any better than plain clothes. Why make cars that look good? Ugly cars go just as fast and transport just as well.

So why do people buy pretty wardrobes and nice looking cars? Because they like how they look. Out of vanity. Because they want to project a certain image. Because they want to fit in with their niche in society. Because they just feel like it with no better reason. There can be a million reasons for a million individuals. There is no one reason, and you can't discern what a person's motivations are simply by looking, much less by reading about it on a message board. Body art and jewelry aren't any different.

None of these things are necessary. They're simply for aesthetics. Whether one finds them aesthetically pleasing or not is purely subjective. In this case, it looks like the popular opinion is that tongue rings are not appealing. That's fine, but arguing that from a functional perspective doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Earrings don't serve any useful function, either, but on one seems to be crapping on them. Why is that? Because they're more socially accepted. It's a matter of convention.

But then again, what do I know? I'm just one person. And so is everyone else.

How in the world does a tongue ring = a slut. Please explain how a piercing could possibly be related to that. I think my grandfather felt the same way about woman showing there ankles.
