What makes this watch so expensive? Cheapest I've seen online is 300,000. I know nothing about watches.
10% craftsmanship
80% brand name
not talking literal fractions as in it cost 30,000$ to construct the watch but qualitative breakdown of its value. tourbillon is not innovative technology... its 200+ years old but complicated to build and rare.
patek has one of the nicest finishing and build. but mostly the company has long history and it holds the strongest branding. (patek and rolex are 2 highest in value-retention and can in cases be appreciating investments)
kinda like how the veyron cost 2 million when compared to a corvette z06 or 430 scuderia... the price doesnt scale out... its priced because it IS a bugatti and it has this/that (4 turbos) and holds certain titles... built as a FLAGSHIP and not necessary actual profit driver.
likewise, this patek, among others, is sort of a holy grail watch. most "standard" pateks can be had for 50k
[QUOTE=Traveldude,Dec 4 2009, 10:04 AM]A tourbillon repeater is one of the most complicated watch that one can purchase.
The tourbillon movement was designed to make the watch more precise and have the movement not be affected by the effects of gravity.
