So because I do not go to church i will never find a real purpose?

What is your view on the many lazy, lying, criminal, hypocrytes that do attend church? are they heading down a better path?
lol Scot, I can't believe you just said that. Whether these criminals or whatever hypocrites go to church or not has really nothing to do with you. Nobody ever said they are heading down a better path either. Religion never said you'll be transformed a flawless humans if you believe in it. I do see a lot of people out there saying "oh this religion consists of this and that type of bad people, thus this religion is bad." No please. Anyways, I think what QUIKAG trying to say is it's real hard to find a purpose in your life that's something earthly. If you don't believe it, keep trying. By no means I'm trying to start any religious discussion again. I'm out of this place as well since I somehow think this thread will end up nasty.

My day-to-day purpose, the reason why I get up in the morning, and don't just shoot myself - mostly that's just the little enjoyments in life. Spending time with my gf, my friends, driving the S, etc. etc.

An overall goal I want to accomplish in my lifetime? Never really had one. But, if I had more intellect/drive, I'd like to figure out how the universe works, or create new arts/inventions the world has never seen before - for the good of humanity. My current job of supporting computers that break is rather unfulfilling.

I think this is a good point. I'm not sure we all need a "purpose" in life. There are what, 6 billion+ people on Earth? We won't all do something incredible. Most a lot of us can ask for is to enjoy our time here, do some good along the way, and do no real harm to others. I can't say that I have a "purpose" in life. I do the best I can everyday, though. I enjoy myself. I am a great husband to my wife. I am a great son to my parents. I am a good friend and neighbor. I am a good employee. I try to help where/when I can and have never refused a request for assistance when I am able to offer it. Seems like enough for me. Beyond this, though, I plan on being, and hope to be, a great father to my children. If I went tomorrow, I'd be satisfied. I've loved a wonderful woman, traveled around the world, had great friends, had some great times, had some measure of professional success, and will leave my wife with security. I don't especially care about what comes after this life, if anything. I figure if I've done the best I can, then it'll work itself out. I think we put WAY too much burden/baggage on ourselves in this life (don't get me started on religion...). Maybe it doesn't need to be as hard as we think?

It's not.

The trick is to pursue happiness, all else follows.

For a lot of people though, the trick is to find the road that leads to happiness first. Kind of a Catch-22.

Is it? I think the pursuit of happiness is the road.....If you're happy you like what you do, who you are. That shows in everything you do to everyone you come in contact with.

It creates opportunity

On the subject of religion,

I think everyone needs some morality and to give back to their fellow man to feel truly fulfilled.

Some people find that through a church. Some find it elsewhere. The idea is the same, the path is different.

I guess I tend to think the opposite. If you like what you do and who you are, then you're happy.
