Find out if I can bring it home in the S.

Dave, might I also suggest switching to Bell? I know you're a shaw guy... but, bell has 25~ HD channels. Shaw has, 2?

I'm paying about $75 a month for Bell, and then $30 a month for Telus ADSL. When I had shaw here, I was paying $120 a month for digital cable and cable internet.

All of the following is what I've read on the DHC website:

Bell's HD channels are sporadic at best. If they have a program or two in HD, they say that channel is HD. Starchoice gives you a better picture on standard definition channels and the same quality on HD.
Bell's customer service is horrific.

Shaw's picture quality and service are terrible, but we already knew that...

Bell is also introducing an HD PVR soon here, which I'm excited about since we don't have tivo up here.
Vapour ware until it arrives. I've had HD through bell for about 4 years now.. they've been promising this for almost all that time!

Be nice if/when it happens though!

I have a feeling it'll be out soon though. the HD box I have was about $450-500 last year when it came out (the one with a DVI port), and now its down to $250~ - and they're not making it anymore.

So that seems to tell me they'll have a new version (probably with HDMI), and possibly a PVR. I also seem to remember a press release in regards to their PVR coming out

Dylan, that's quite a lot of money for your TV signal and internet. I'm under $100.00 a month for digital cable, the 4 movie channels and internet. I haven't been watching much of the HD channels simply because there isn't much on those that I like. I'm quite happy with the standard channels, movie channels and PPV.
I also just got into the Motorola/Shaw PVR, so I'm not willing to ditch it. Besides, I find the cable to be easier to hook up multiple TVs without the extra box. I don't need full channel spread on my other TV. I'm also quite happy with Shaw internet and I don't want to lose my email accounts. This doesn't mean that the next time Shaw pisses me off, I won't give 'em one of these .................

I've asked Chris to do an objective evaluation on the picture quality of this Daytek unit when he goes. Granted I can buy 3 or 4 of these for the price of a "name brand" unit (plasma or LCD) but I'm not willing to sacrifice picture quality for the sake of cheapness.
He'll report back here when he's done.

I've been doing a lot of comparisons at the various electronics stores the last two days. The Panasonic plasma and LCD TVs (not rear proj.) have spectacular picture quality, even on standard broadcast channels. The Samsung LCD, on the other hand, was garbage. I was very disappointed in that one. This is surprising since I'm sitting on Samsung 19" computer monitor right now and it's VERY good.

Who makes the LCD panels for Panasonic/Matsushita? I have a feeling NEC has something to do with it. If they do, its quite likely very similar to the daytek panel.
